I’ve never eaten in this restaurant before . I went in on a Monday morning around 11:30 AM. I sat at the bar, it was freezing in this restaurant. There were menus just kind of all strewn around the bar, not nicely stacked in front of each chair. There were a couple of dirty napkins laying on the bar. The girl came over barely a smile not a hello good morning. I said I’ll have a regular coffee. She brought the coffee , I ordered a regular eggs Benedict. She asked if I wanted potatoes or grits I asked what the fruit was, she said “ Seasonal “ like oranges. Ummm , ok , I think to myself. Was Thinking the response would be maybe something more descriptive like strawberries, blueberries etc.. So I ordered the fruit. I take a sip of my coffee. It is literally barely lukewarm . When she brings the food, I tell her the coffee is barely warm. Could I have another cup? Without responding or saying anything like oh I’m so sorry. Let me get you a hot cup.She pulls out a cup pours coffee .. this cup Is definitely warmer than the 1st cup, but not hot like nice hot coffee.. The eggs Benedict was good. The fruit was grapefruit grapes strawberries blueberries. I only ate half of the eggs Benedict. I asked for a to go box. I was in presented with the check. Never once did this girl smile at me say thank you when she dropped off the check. Anything else I can get for you when she gave me my food she never came back down and checked. Is everything OK. She was very interested in what was going on on her phone standing at the end of the counter though. Listen, I’ve worked in the industry my whole life. I know what servers are paid. I know tips are a big part of their daily income. I don’t give a bad tip if the food is bad the server is not responsible for bad food. That is the kitchen’s problem.. But I felt this girl could’ve given two shits whether or not I was sitting at her bar , I just don’t feel if you have an attitude like that you shouldn’t be waiting on people. And if you do have an attitude like that, you shouldn’t expect to be tipped well. I always tip well. I did not tip this girl well and I did not feel bad about it. My bill was about $25 and I left her two dollars. Under other circumstances, I would’ve given this girl six bucks. Let me also say I didn’t expect this girl to do backflips for me, but you do expect more than barely a grunt...
Read moreWe’ve come here almost every Saturday for the last couple years. Something changed recently. Can’t figure it out. But whoever is running this place is going to run it in the dirt.
Problem #1 - unwrap my silverware pack and it’s covered in food. It was literally wrapped DIRTY. This isn’t a mistake you make in food service. You inspect your utensils before wrapping. Whoever did this needs fired.
Problem #2 - I pointed it out to our waitress and she rolled her eyes and said “I’ll bring you another one.” I’m thinking to myself; “How can I trust your other silverware is being cleaned properly either?” No apology, no surprise, no care at all.
Problem #3 - My plate comes out - an another broken egg biscuit sandwich with potatoes. It has a long black hair right on top of the food. I point it immediately to the waitress, who literally says “oh it happens sometimes, it can’t be avoided.” I’m enraged at this point. What in the actual …. did I just witness?!
Problem #4 - She comes back and asks what else I’d like. I’m thinking “well isn’t that presumptuous?!” I told her I don’t want anything because I cannot trust the integrity of their kitchen right now. Dirty utensils, hair in food. All of these things are indicative of really poor management. If noticed problems like this in my company someone would be getting fired. Immediately. You gotta cut the cancer out before it spreads through the whole body.
Problem #5 - Obviously I asked for the manager. She clearly brushed it off and boldly commended her kitchen staff and said they’ve had the same staff since they opened (which is not true, I’ve noticed many changes since they opened lol) and then offered me a gift card, which I refused.
Problem #6 - We were still expected to pay our tab.
I wouldn’t have posted this review if the manager actually took the matter seriously and assured me she’d investigate and maintain the utmost highest integrity in her kitchen. But she didn’t do that. She insulted me with a gift card.
We did the math… we spend an estimated $5,200 / year at Another Broken Egg. They can kiss that top line revenue goodbye. I’ll take my business to Highbank or Katalinas where they care about the quality of their food and the happiness of...
Read moreBottom Line Up Front: Patio seating in frigid cold temperature is idiocy, the service is usually great, and the food is largely overrated relative to the quality.
The details: I think of the four or five times we’ve eaten here, we’ve been shuffled off to the enclosed patio every time, and it’s a terrible dining experience. The metal chairs are the most uncomfortable seating I’be ever endured at a foodservice establishment of this grade. But today’s trip takes the cake: the ruddy fools seated people at the allegedly “heated” patio when it’s 7 degrees outside. The only thing more foolish is that I went along with this madness. Worse yet, they had the ceiling fans running directly above our table, and it took 45 minutes and three servers to finally get the fan shut off. So I suffered through the meal wearing my winter parka and gloves with a cold draft blowing down my neck. Also, the coffee and food got cold almost immediately thanks to the frigid downdraft, which made the actual eating experience pretty disappointing.
The upside: the service is excellent. Chauncey was professional, cheerful, and mostly attentive. The other servers working this zone of banishment also seemed to be doing a great job.
The most disappointing thing, however, was my food. The plating is beautiful, but the flavors are largely bland to uninspiring. My lobster and Brie omelette had neither lobster nor Brie inside the folded egg, but rather everything was piled on top. So it looks great, but a lot of bites of the overcooked eggs had no cheese or lobster at all. Also, it seems there was half a brick of cream cheese just lumped in the middle of the eggs, not spread throughout the omelette evenly. Also, the eggs were way way way overcooked.
My wife’s eggs Benedict, on the other hand, were perfectly cooked, and the grits are good, although they got cold and congealed very quickly due to the aforementioned downdraft. And I think the hot chocolate is water-based; it is definitely not as rich or tasty as the hot chocolate served at the Original Pancake House, for example.
This place has loads of potential, but falls a little short on the details for me. For the money, there are definitely more consistently excellent...
