Hounddogs is a great bar and pizza joint in the University district near OSU. They have parking behind the building, but the nearest street is only one way the other direction, so you have to go around the block to park in the parking lot.
They have 2 different styles of pizza - Hounddogs and Smokin' Joe's. Hounddogs style pizza is basically Ohio/Midwest style (thin crust, square cut) with an option to choose the spiciness of your pizza sauce. Smokin' Joe's style is a thicker more traditional style with a garlic butter crust and a sweeter pizza sauce.
The wife and I ordered a large (16") cheese lover pizza with pepperoni and pineapple hounddogs style with spicy sauce, "The Russell" large smokin Joe's style, an order of Kraut Balls, and 6 bone in buffalo wings. Price came to $61 - which is a bit expensive, but I get it since they're in a prime location near OSU.
After trying both pizzas, I actually preferred the Smokin' Joe's style to Hounddogs, even though I personally love Ohio/Midwest style pizza with spice. Don't get me wrong the Hounddogs style was excellent as well, but the pizza was pretty greasy. The Smokin' Joe's style crust was indeed a delicious garlic butter crust , as well as doughy but with the right amount of crispy.
There was an issue with The Russell I ordered though - the description on their menu says "your choice of sauce, mozzarella & provolone cheese, seasoned chicken and bacon, TOPPED with scallions and ranch. Everything was on there except the ranch, which is a shame because their ranch is homemade and glorious (got some with the Kraut Balls).
Overall both pizzas had fantastic flavor, toppings, sauce, and cheese. The Kraut Balls were more like sausage balls, but that's not a bad thing either - you only get 5 for 7.99 though, should probably be 6 or 8 for that price. Wings were decent, plenty of sauce and good flavor.
Personally I give the pizza a 4.8, the ranch a 5.0 (look out Tommy's Pizza, you have a challenger for best ranch in the city), and the sides a 4.5. Since Google doesn't allow decimal reviews, I just rounded up to a 5.
Other than maybe a very slightly messed up order and the high price, this is an all around really good...

Read moreSo we hit up Hound Dogs/Rivari Room after a CBJ game on 1/2. Came in the back entrance and saw the dining room was closed for evening, so we went over to the bar side. Got a couple of drinks from the bartender. Good crowd. Several tables of people some of who were eating pizza. Guys playing pool at the tables. Went over to the pizza side to order pizza, and was told that you can't take pizza to the bar side. Weird because people were eating pizza on the bar side. Our friends join us and order their pizza about the same time. Bartender comes over and says last call in 10 minutes. A little odd considering there were at least 30 people in the place drinking. I go up to the bar to order my last round. Bartender is talking to regulars on other side of the bar. I wait three minutes and the bartender is still talking. I go back to the table, grab a drink of beer and the pizzas have arrived. Head back over the bar to get last call. I approach the bartender and he slaps down my tab. I ask about last call. He rudely tells me that he told me ten minutes ago with a healthy dose of attitude. I could have been 10 minutes, but was realistically around 8 minutes. I didn't have the energy to debate how long it had been, how I had already come up to the bar but he was too busy chumming it up with his buddies/regulars to serve me. I didn't mention that he had a bar full of guests many of whom had full drinks. He wanted us gone. Went back to the table and the pizza was perfect in every way. Pizza cook got nice tip, and rude bartender did not. I'll back, but will have to get there earlier to get the...
