I wanted to try a new brunch place so my friend recommended Katalina's. We arrived around 11 am and there was a small line to order so we had to wait outside for a few minutes. After we were able to move inside and order, we were told we would have to wait until a table was free so we could be seated. There was another couple ahead of us already waiting so we kinda had to stand out of the way for 10-15ish minutes lol. The staff was friendly and tried to urge people who were just lounging about to wrap up their visit. Once a table was free, someone brought out our food and we were able to be seated. I ordered the Mexican French Toast with bacon and my friend ordered some type of breakfast tacos with street corn. 🌮 🌽 Overall, the French toast was okay. My total was a lil over $17 which seemed kinda steep for such a basic meal and a cup of hot black tea. 😅 The decor/atmosphere was fun and lively and there are paint markers on the table so that guests can draw or write on basically anything in the restaurant. Overall, the price for the experience is what hindered my impression. I'm sure in the summer months this spot is a great find, but the size of the restaurant really limits the ability to truly take in and enjoy the experience. I'd be open to come here again when the weather is warm and I'll sit outside.

What a disappointing and off-putting experience. I brought my service dog along with me and was quickly informed dogs were not allowed on the patio. I let the server know that she was a service dog, which in fact are allowed. She then asked for paperwork proof of being a service dog. I let her know that asking for paperwork was in fact illegal, but I had no issue showing her the documentation. Even after showing the documentation, I still was made to feel uncomfortable about her presence, so I decided to go ahead and put her back in my car. The server was also told by her manager to deal with the situation instead of the manager coming to speak with me themselves, putting the server in an uncomfortable situation. Really upsetting experience to say the least. Second issue was the food. Incredibly expensive and what I got was really really not good. Hen in a basket was flavorless and undercooked eggs made the dish inedible. I also got the apple butter pancake balls and they really didn't do it for me. The iced coffee was also one of the worst I've ever had. Hen in a basket, pancake balls, and an Iced coffee cost me $40!! All in all, I certainly won't be back. EDIT: The business has reached out in a very timely manner to address the situation and was very apologetic. I will visit again for another try.

The first thing I texted my wife when I woke up this morning was: "The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that the breakfast we had at Katalina’s was THE best breakfast, if not even the most perfect breakfast that I have ever eaten. I would go back to Columbus for no other reason than just to eat that again." To put in context just how high of praise that is from me: 1. We ate there three days ago and I'm still thinking about it. 2. I have eaten at Michelin starred restaurants. 3. We live three hours away. 4. I was born and raised and have lived most of my whole life in Ann Arbor, both my parents, and my wife, graduated from the University of Michigan. I highly recommend you and another person go and split/share the following menu items: The Pancake Balls with dulce de leche. Malatan Slow-Roasted Pork Egg Sandwich. A side of the Sweet N Spicy Bacon. You're welcome. If you get the opportunity to visit southeast Michigan, I highly recommend the only other places that will come close to this pinnacle for breakfast excellence, which is the Browndog Barlor® & Restaurant in Northville, or Zingerman’s Roadhouse in Ann Arbor. Go Blue! Go Katalina’s!
