this place has a reputation in columbus for having some of THE best eats in the city. and yet i've never been! so when date night came around, i was thrilled to have a chance to finally check it out.
first off: get reservations ahead of time. this place is BUSY. hour waits aren't uncommon. but we didn't have to wait very long since we reserved a table. i'd definitely say that's the way to go.
the menu is chef curated, and there are definitely some interesting combinations on the menu (with, from what i could tell, no substitutions). but there's absolutely something for everyone. i got the meatloaf melt because i have heard GREAT things about the meatloaf here, and my date got the spicy chicken rigatoni. both of us were absolutely satisfied with our selections; the rigatoni is a HUGE portion size packed with meat, pasta, mushrooms, and veggies, while the meatloaf melt is so thick that posting pictures of it could be qualified as a thirst trap.
service was excellent and attentive too. it felt like every phase of dining we had multiple people helping us out. and that's despite it being a packed house at 8pm on a weekday. they nailed the 50s americana aesthetic, and you feel like you're in a classic traincar diner despite the building being far bigger and nowhere near as cramped.
overall, this is a place where the reputation precedes itself, and with good reason. be ready for a busy restaurant that doesn't feel busy, a time capsule from another era, and a delicious food experience, all at once. A++ work, absolutely deserves the glowing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEverything was GREAT! Aside from when we left in broad daylight and two cars had been broken into. Awful place in the city! Several homeless camps on the railroad behind a loft hotel! Cap city told my family this has happened on several occasions throughout the years, put a third camera up at one point, break ins stopped so they took it down- then yesterday 11:30 am two cars broad daylight with no coverage from any building cameras. They gave us coffee to wait two hours on cops. Sorry but coffee isnāt replacing a $600 laptop BAG, a thousand dollar laptop, a passport and miscellaneous other things my momās boyfriend had in his brief case.
If this is an ONGOING problem, Cap city should be thinking of the customers they are serving -āat a NICE restaurant⦠knowing there are camps around that commit crimes- there should be AMPLE security.
Food and service have nothing on what two different sets of people experienced yesterday, alone- after two hours of waiting, the cops said they were on shift change š I bet they wouldnāt be waiting two hours to get to their wife or kids if they called reporting a breaking and entering/ theft.
For real, do better for the next people so your store doesnāt run down like the eastland mall. Take the extra steps to think of others, even if itās extra money out of your pockets- as we know Cameron Mitchell has it. Iām sure his house has security. Just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhenever I come to Columbus, I usually have lunch either by myself or with a friend at this location. Today was the worst service I ever had here. I sat at the bar, at first I noticed how attentive the bartender was to everyone but me, mind you Iām the only black guy at the bar. I had to ask for straw twice, I had to ask for ketchup three times finally I got it from a waiter working the floor. I got a fork but no knife to cut my meatloaf and I noticed he asked everyone at the bar more than once. Are they doing all right do they need anything but me. When another guy sitting 2 seats away from me asked for ketchup, the bartender got it immediately, All the other customers got straws with their drink and all their silverware immediately but not me. I usually tip 20%. This guy got 49 cents on a $20 lunch bill. So you have to ask. Is this racism or does this guy think he knows me from somewhere? Iām always respectful and thankful for service I get at any restaurant. I am authorized to use the law office I work for credit card for lunch, especially when Iām out of town. But I was concerned because of this bartenderās attitude, if I used it, he might try to misappropriate some funds for himself so I paid in cash. Iāll take the loss just to be cautious. Thatās how concerned I was with this bartenders...
