We booked this place through Expedia based on reviews & having parking + being close to the Short North. We had a 2 Queen bed suite for us and our 2 kids. Unfortunately, our stay did not live up to the hype. Upon arrival, we found a bunch of baby spiders all along the ceiling where it meets the wall. They were scattered around the entire perimeter of the bedroom. We called down to the desk and they sent someone with a duster. We explained to them that a duster wasn’t going to cut it. We really wanted to switch rooms but they didn’t have a room to accommodate us at the time. Someone came back with a vacuum and got the spiders cleaned up from the ceiling but no one bothered to look around to see where they might be coming from. During our 2 night stay, we killed about a dozen more baby spiders. We called down to mention it at least one more time, suggesting they might want to look into a possible infestation and we felt kind of brushed off by the response. If they came back to the room, it was when we weren’t there and they never communicated anything to us. At this point we were paying close attention to all of the nooks and crannies of the room and we couldn’t help but notice how poorly kept the room was. The floor behind the couch was quite dirty, the fridge had a pool of water on the top shelf & there were old potato chip crumbs underneath the couch cushions to name a few things. The HVAC system in the bedroom blew directly on one of the queen beds so if the AC was on, you were getting blasted with cold air. We attempted to lower the fan speed with the thermostat but it didn’t help. It’s also wired as a heat pump so if you increase the temperature to shut it off, it just turns the heat on so we had to periodically shut the system off completely. Additionally, some of the electronic shades didn’t work either so we were unable to block the sun from blasting into the living room area. We called about that as well but that was not remedied during our stay. Fortunately, the black-out shade in the bedroom did work. The tub also drained poorly so we had to stand in a small pool of water while we showered. Someone came and snaked the drain and it helped a little bit. The room we had was also right next to the highway (unfortunate placement) and the highway noise was very loud all day and all night. We didn’t have any other noise issues like some other reviews so that wouldn’t have been an issue if we weren’t on the outside corner of the hotel. The kids had fun watching the cars zoom by though. At one point, when talking to the front desk, we asked about the possibility of getting some money back from our stay and we were told that because we booked via Expedia there was nothing they could do for us. We contacted Expedia immediately and they told us the hotel was responsible for any possible reimbursement. They contacted the hotel on our behalf and our request was denied. Overall, this was a very disappointing stay. We will definitely be looking elsewhere for our next trip...
Read moreI don’t recommend staying with this hotel.
If your stay is limited to a day or two, this hotel might appear satisfactory. However, for extended stays like ours, which span over three months, our review is less favorable.
As visiting scholars from the UK, we work for OSU for three months this summer, the university covering a substantial cost of 7800 pounds /9900 dollars for this accommodations.
Regrettably, we were assigned a smaller room at the far end of the hallway. When checking in at the hotel, the staff told us he couldn’t find the booking record, so this is just a temporary room for one night. But on the following day, he found the record of the full payment, but didn’t make any amendment to the room. Given the transient nature of our stay, we accepted this arrangement without complaint.
Yet, an issue has arisen - the cleaning staff shows a lack of diligence. There have been instances when we've waited up to 10-12 days for a cleaning service. It's unclear whether this neglect is due to the room's secluded location (being the last room in the corridor) or if the housekeeping staff solely attends to rooms waiting for check-ins. Despite offering tips and asking the front desk to chase up, the efforts haven't yielded any improvement.
In our pursuit of a resolution, we've approached the front desk to request a room change. However, we've been consistently met with the response that the hotel is fully occupied and to check again on the upcoming weekend. After encountering this same reply on five separate occasions, we've ceased our inquiries. Instead, we've resigned ourselves to the realisation that nothing will get improved and have resorted to requesting fresh linens and towels from the front desk every few days, making the bedding and cleaning the room by ourselves...
A staff member at the front desk informed us that their housekeeping team is currently understaffed, with only four members working at present. Consequently, there are instances when they're unable to fulfill their duties...
Noise also presents another concern. If people are running and shouting from the corridor, the sound invariably permeates into your room. Which is very annoying during the night, the air conditioning unit within the room is equally loud. Given that all window remains non-operational and there’s no natural ventilation, reliance on air conditioning becomes necessary, despite its considerable noise output.
I enjoy the gym, and I've also encountered a particularly helpful staff member at the front desk. However, these positive aspects don't fully compensate for the overall experience at Hyatt House Columbus OSU. Before I've stayed with Hyatt in the UK, Europe and Asia, my previous experience was much better...
Read moreUPDATE: I stayed here for a week in Dec 2022. There were roaches in my closet and under the bathroom sink. They also do not clean rooms UNLESS you schedule it with the front desk. When I was there in September, it was automatically done every 3 days. My room was right across the hall from where I stayed in September 2022. This room (329) had a great view of the Olentangy Trail and river. 315 is very close, but I didn't hear it at all from my room.
This hotel is in a great location, and is very easy to find. It's very close to the James Cancer Center, tons of places to eat and the Olentangy River. Check in was easy. My room was very nice. I got a great rate, and the view from my room on the 3rd floor was nice. The parking lot was pretty decent, but there was a tour bus taking up a lot of spaces for a couple days. There's still ample parking.
There were a few weird things. First, it's a new hotel, but the floors in the hallway are creaky. One of the elevators also makes a lot of noise. The rooms are decently quiet, but the people upstairs sounded like they were hosting a bowling tournament.
There are no curtains, but they have awesome privacy screens and blackout screens. The blackout screens are the best ones I've ever used. The beds are comfy, the room is roomy and the setup in my rooms was nice. I have a couch thingy in my room and it was very comfortable.
Now the bad: My room was not very clean. It was kind of dusty, there were fingernail clippings between one of the beds and the night stand. Gross. Also, the shower was not clean. I feel like housekeeping sprays them down with cleaner and sprays them out. The shower was grungy and someone's pubes were on a little shelf in the shower. GROSS. Lastly, some of my wash cloths were stained. I feel like one of the ones they'd use to clean with was accidentally put out with the ones for the rooms.
The employees were all very nice, and very helpful. I really enjoyed my stay here, and if I need to come back to the area, I'd like to...
