Our family of four arrived hungry. We had spontaneously decided to eat out (NEVER happens these days because kids are older with busy schedules, husband has busy schedule and we tend to not spend extra whenever possible). Husband originally suggested Wendy's but youngest daughter is vegetarian so we needed to have a vegetarian option that was close by (middle daughter had just finished martial arts at Won's). We ended up choosing Mellow Mushroom because the last time we ate at one (not Columbus location) it was a good experience and it was vegetarian-friendly.
We were originally greeted by a young man host who seated us promptly and left us with an alcohol beverage menu (no regular menus). My husband & I don't drink alcohol so we both chuckled. Our server (KT) was pleasant, friendly & efficient.
Several minutes after our host seated us, KT arrived to ask if we were ready to order. We mentioned that we had not seen a menu yet. She apologized and brought menus, then asked if we'd like a beverage first. Good idea! We placed our beverage order and perused the menu. KT brought our drinks right away, and took our order.
While waiting for our food, we enjoyed hearing/seeing/discussing the trivia quiz questions. It definitely made the wait for food easier.
After a while, KT brought 1/2 our order and said the other 1/2 would be ready soon. We had ordered 1 large House Special (mushrooms & olives on half), and 1 medium Garlic & Green Pepper. We waited to eat until both pizzas arrived. KT asked if we'd like any sauces with our order. We asked what kinds were available. KT mentioned the choices and we decided we would like to try the Garlic Butter. KT said she'd go ahead and bring us 3.
Once both pizzas arrived we feasted. Delicious! GREAT crust (nice, light, gently crisp on the outside with fluffy goodness on the inside), fantastic and fresh ingredients. Next time we could just order two mediums and be plenty happy. Hopefully I'll remember. KT kindly brought us a to go box to take our leftovers home.
The Garlic Butter not so much. Tasted more like oil with a hint of garlic salt. We all four agreed there wasn't much garlic taste. Twenty five cents each is about right for value. I don't think any of us would order it again.
Overall I'd say this was a really good dining experience. I would definitely come again. I would try not to be too hungry before I got there. I would just order Mediums. And no extra sauce. Because the pizza is so good you really don't need any...
Read moreThis place has to be the best in Columbus Georgia, and possibly even America. It feels like home and heaven every time I walk in because of how friendly everyone is to me. At least 5 people come up and talk to me, just to make sure that everything is going perfectly, and I never have complaints to say to them. The service is very quick, and the food is just scrumptious. It melts in your mouth, and mine too! My favorites have to be the Mighty Meaty (you must try it now!! it is the best pizza ever) and the heavenly pretzel bites. Besides the friendly faces, and wonderful food, and the helpful staff, and the lawful managing, and the delicious water, and the clean tables, and the talking people, and the tvs, and the welcoming, calming music, the indoors just look so beautiful. I want to go up to the guy who painted the insides and give them a hug because whoever did it did an amazing job. The murals on the walls are just mind blowing and really add to the experience. So if you are in Columbus, or even live in Georgia, or even live in the Untied States, or even live on earth, if you were to ask me to recommend one place it would be this specific location of mellow mushroom. They were so welcome of service animals too, as I once witnessed someone who had a service animal with them and the staff was just so understanding, it really warmed my heart. The bathrooms were also spotless, which is a rare find these days. Many other establishments have disgusting, filthy bathrooms and its always refreshing to find a clean, cute bathroom. Now, I know what everyone is wondering, 'how does the bathroom sink water taste, is it dirty and gross?!', and of course, I had to test it for you guys to ease your curious minds. However, I will say that they are so good about refilling drinks, that you don't need to drink the bathroom water, but if you were to, the bathroom water tasted so cleansing and it was almost soothing. It reminded me of home, which is what mellow mushroom has become to me, my second home. My time to get away from the stress of the cruel world, where I can finally relax for at least 2 hours, and where I can feel whole once again,...
Read moreAlright, folks, buckle up for a pizza the action at Mellow Mushroom in Columbus, Georgia—where the vibes are as saucy as the marinara! This dad’s been grilling in the rain and rocking socks with sandals since ’82, so trust me, I know a pie-peeling spot when I see one. Mellow Mushroom’s got my heart knead-ing more, and I’m dishing out a review so cheesy it’ll make you crust with laughter!
First, let’s talk toppings—I mean, top features! Number one: the pizza-tively divine stone-baked pies. Each slice is a crust-acean masterpiece, baked to golden perfection with toppings so fresh they’re practically picked from the garden. I had the “Holy Shiitake,” and mush-room for improvement? Not a chance! Second, the craft beer selection is hop-tastic. With local brews on tap, it’s like a pint-astic adventure for your taste buds—pairs with pizza like socks with my Crocs! Third, the atmosphere is pie-peelingly groovy. Psychedelic decor, friendly staff, and a vibe so chill it’s like they knead your soul. It’s the kind of place where you loaf being!
Now, for a pun-derful anecdote: Picture me, your ol’ dad, waltzing in, ready to slice the day. I order a large “Kosmic Karma” pizza, and when it arrives, it’s so loaded with veggies it’s practically a salad on dough! I tell the server, “This pizza’s so good, it’s un-brie-lievable!” She groans, my kids roll their eyes, but I’m grating on their nerves with pride. Then, I spill some sauce on my shirt—classic dad move—and joke, “Guess I’m sauced now!” The whole table’s in a pickle, but we’re laughing like we’re at a comedy roast!
Mellow Mushroom’s a slice of heaven for any dad who loves puns, pizza, and a yeast of fun. If you’re in Columbus, dough-n’t miss it—it’s a pizza cake! Five stars, and I’m baking...
