Best Thai food in town!! A new favorite. Our first dining experience here was absolutely fantastic. We dined on a Saturday night about 6:45. We did call ahead around 6:20 and they set aside a table for us which was probably really good because they stayed busy. the dining room is small (7 or so tables I’d say) and they stayed full/busy so keep that in mind. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the dining experience itself is really elevated despite small/off the beaten path location.
Appreciate small details like the beautiful dishware and plate presentation that really made this great for a date night.
We had Chicken Pad Thai which is now my favorite in town and easily one of the best I’ve had. This is a dish I’ve had at many Thai restaurants and Thai Orchids is one of my favorites. The dish itself has that ideal blend of sweetness with just a little spice. Chicken and egg proportions were impressive and although I did clean my plate, that had more to do with how delicious it was because it was plentiful amount!
My wife tried Pork Pad Krapow at the host’s recommendation and she loved it. It was a great rice dish and she had enough leftover to bring home for a second meal. I commented that it tasted almost like it could be a breakfast dish only to find out from our waiter it is often eaten that way in Thailand. Not surprised. It was very very good!
We also tried the crab Rangoon as appetizer and it was really tasty. I have not had that many places so I don’t have a lot to compare it to but it was really good. Good krispy outside with generous portion size filling.
We had heard prior to coming that the made-to-order food could sometimes take awhile but honestly it did not seem to take that long to me and getting an appetizer probably helped somewhat in that regard. We also weren’t particularly in a hurry and I’d guess that’s a good mentality for this spot. The person running the front said that they will take call ahead orders even for dining in so if you’re worried about that, that may be a good route to go.
All that to say, I’m sure we’ll be returning regularly because this is by far the best Thai food in Columbus area.
The one and only downside is that the dining room is small so you end up -really- close to neighboring tables. That didn’t bother us but it’s worth noting for others who may want to request a specific table before dining.
5 stars, 10/10 and best Chicken Pad Thai I have had in a very long time!
(Side note: we did not try it ourselves but several guests ordered Thai tea so evidently it must be good. We also appreciated having the little pitcher of water at our table to refill as needed.)
Such a great experience and...
Read moreFirstly, the food is good. But, well, on my first visit here my friend and I walked in and there was a two person table square in the middle of the dining room only and an empty table was dirty. I asked if we could sit at the larger table that was not in the middle of the people, I felt uncomfortable there. The man who was nice per se, said that’s for reservations and only if we were ordering a lot of food. Well, in fact we were ordering a lot of food for two people because we wanted work lunches and so we’re going to order numerous entrees, and appetizers. I didn’t say so but I think he felt bad and asked us if we wanted to move once he cleaned the table and we did move. We ordered soup, two noodle dishes, fried rice, crab Rangoon, spring rolls, and drinks. For two people. While he was nice he definitely got nicer once we ordered because I’m sure he felt bad. Today I drove an hour to order lots of food to go. I asked for the soup not to have veggies in it, the women who seemed rushed even though I was the only soul there, explained they have to put the root and peppers, I said fine. She said cilantro, also fine. She clearly was annoyed with me though insisting the soup is made to order and not made in a big batch. She specifically said that. She went into the kitchen to ask about no veggies and I heard the women who was back there let out a loud upset moan. I knew the soup was made in large batches at that point and I was clearly being lied to. But WHY? So you don’t have to admit the food is not made to order but in large batches? Not ideal sure but why lie? Well anyways I get home and even though I specifically said if there has to be veggies fine, but please, please no mushrooms. I even made a point to explain how much I don’t like them. I pour the soup into a bowl, there are no veggies but you know what there was? Mushroom pieces. Stems and broken caps, not one or two, but a palm full. I can deal with them having an attitude, but I don’t like when people take my money and lie to my face. The soup is made in a large batch, the problem was they didn’t want to pick them out, so lied that veggies are part of the “flavor”, and were openly annoyed with me. Next time just tell...
Read moreWe've had some disappointments locally, where we're staying for just a couple months, and had hoped that this restaurant would be as good as the reviews claimed. It really was. We had a takeout order, starting with shrimp spring rolls. Those were very tasty, with appropriate dipping sauce. My wife was surprised at how many shrimp they'd managed to stuff in there, definitely not scrimping. I had an order of Pad Thai, "spicy". We're used to Thai places having four levels of spice: mild, medium, hot, and "Thai hot", and would typically order "hot", sometimes "Thai hot". This has just three levels, and we went with the middle. It was a very nice level of spice, very enjoyable, neither bland nor overpowering. Next time, I may order "Thai spicy" and see just how much hotter that is. The Pad Thai was delicious, with plenty of meat, noodles that were flavorful and had great texture. There was also a lot of it, really stuffed into the takeout container. My wife had a green curry, also "spicy", and said it was delicious, also with a nice level of spice. We were disappointed that they didn't have the mango sticky rice, but that's a seasonal thing, better to not even try in the off season, vs. getting something like canned mango. One thing I'd say to those who have not been there is watch carefully for the sign. It's a small place, right on Veterans. Look for the Salon sign of the next-door hair salon, which is easier to spot. Or use Street View so you'll recognize it. We will definitely be back, to try more of the menu. (Edit) Second visit, again takeout, and we're again pleased. My wife had drunken noodles with tofu, spicy, and I had panang curry with chicken, "Thai hot", which is about what we're used to as "hot" from Thai restaurants in metro Denver. Definitely a big step up in spice level from the medium ("spicy"), but not overpowering. Both were delicious, as were the egg rolls. So now we've had two appetizers, two noodle dishes, and two curries, with...
