Terrible experience at this establishment on July 30, 2021. We were promptly seated by the hostess who was very welcoming at a grill with two other parties. One was a couple where the woman was clearly drunk. Talking loudly, falling over her date, making salacious comments to the staff, and continuously taking shots of Saki. She introduced herself and tried to make small talk with us and we entertained it for a while but it ended when she kept referring to my husband as "Tokyo" right after we had already exchanged pleasantries which included my husband's nationality. My husband is not Japanese and the woman knew this because she had previously asked him "where he was from." He politely told her that we were not interested in engaging in further conversations with her but she was offended by this and continued to make passive remarks to her date, referring to my husband as "Tokyo". This went on the entire time our food was being prepared. We immediately asked for our food to be boxed up as we were not about to be harassed any longer. The chef and our waitress where aware of the woman's behavior but at no point did they interject. When we asked for a manager we were told no one was available. While we were leaving, the woman followed us out yelling at us, calling us names, and telling us to leave and that she knew the manager and we were never going to be allowed to come back again. We told the hostess about our encounter. She was very apologetic but was not able to offer any resolution. We paid for our meal which was over $100 and we left. As stated before, at no point did anyone try to stop the woman from harassing us or the other group sitting at our grill. This left us to defend ourselves. While the woman was clearly in the wrong, the one thing she did get right is that we will never go back to Mitaka again. IF she truly knows the manager, then I refuse to support a local business that associates with people of such low caliber. I hope that management will reconsider who they allow into their restaurant. Apparently this is all on surveillance so I encourage anyone who assumes responsibility for this establishment and review...
Read moreOk, let’s start off by talking about the setting. The tables were very close and there was not much room for elbow space. It was very congested. I felt like I could feel the person breathing who was across from me. The floor vibrated anytime someone would walk by, it just felt uncomfortable. Almost like I was experiencing an earthquake. The lighting was so dark. I understand dim lighting to set that dinner mood and whatnot; however, when it is so dark you can’t see the food on your plate and you have to pull your phone out to see the food. That is too dark. Speaking of food, that brings me to the next topic. Once I shined the light on my food the lettuce was turning brown. Also, they drowned the salad in dressing. Some people like a lot of dressing. However, there is a point when there is to much. The excitement was lame, the cook was missing that ability to entertain his audience. Maybe, he was new and nervous or he just didn’t care that day. While the chef was cooking the rice, he was getting rice all over the place. He wasted like a good spoon full if not more in the drainage. Now, you think that’s not much, but when you have 8 people at the table that adds up. Especially, when your bill is 60 plus. You kind of expect a full plate of rice. Since we are talking about the rice, let’s talk about the taste. Can you say tasteless and cold. Not sure how my rice had cold spots and clumps of white rice, but you are supposed to fry the rice and it should be hot once it hits my plate. Ok, enough on the rice. So, let’s move onto the meat. Steak and shrimp. A very common combination, but how do you not know the difference between medium and well done. Medium steak should have pink in the middle. Mine was completely well done and dry. So, we ordered a philly roll and the sushi was terrible. I’ve had sushi from a gas station taste better then this. I am so upset with it all. Never, ever, will I, ever go back to this place. Fuji’s, is ten times better and...
Read moreThis experience was a disaster and huge disappointment. From the start, a huge rowdy party of 14 was squeezed onto the other half of the grill forcing our side to group up extremely close and uncomfortably, instead of letting them have the empty table next to ours...(this table remained empty throughout the entire dinner).
There is a definite disconnect between order taking and what gets put on the chef's cart. When he came out with our orders scribbled on a napkin, he looked very confused and it was clear that the chef was missing portions/had incorrect items. My suspicion turned to reality as everyone at the table was served very small portions and 2 servings of chicken had to be added for other people at the table.
The steak and shrimp had absolutely zero flavor to them. The chef at our table put no effort into preparing the meal. The fried rice also was extremely bland, with an overabundance of sesame seeds dumped into it instead of oh I don't know, teriyaki, garlic, butter, literally anything to add any semblance of flavor.
It's 2021. Do better, be better. Of the hundreds and hundreds if hibachi restaurants and meals I've had, to include authentic teppanyaki style dining while actually living in Japan, this was by far the worst hibachi dining experience I've ever had. I won't be back and I don't recommend that anyone reading any if this...
