Let me preface this by saying I was with an exceptional sushi chef who has many years experience and this is where I got most of my inside info from.
Soups Clear soup tasted plasticy even without spoon. Miso soup not the worst but not the best. They definitely used the white miso but forgot the red to make it leveled and an around solid soup the green onions were definitely fresh. The plastic spoon is most likely to be the culprit if the plastic taste. The porcelain Spoons that most places now use are a higher quality and are on average20 ¢ more per unit (Well Worth the investment if used alot).
Sushi Rice was normal sushi rice but with out the edition of Rice vinagor, this led to a strange taste and a diffrence in the texture as well. The chef must ofhave been rushing the rice potion of our sushi and rolls as it kept falling apart (could be many diffrent things to lead to this) Surf clam This was most likely canned or pre-prepared (stillsomegrit in it) Tako was a pre packaged Pickled baby tako octopus) which was not bad infact I may go so far as to say very good. Salmon /Tuna as staples in every Sushi bar were not bad Ama ebi Head was not good as it was left next to rice (or source of moisture, while preparing the boat) to long the and bottom became Soggy and kinda Weird like most fried things do, the ebi it's self was not bad. konk Was BAD as in do not eat you will get sick bad. Tobico wasTobico can't really mess that up. the escolar was not bad at all nice clean fresh taste to it. Cuts the cuts were a mixture where they had Some amazing cuts too Some that looked novice like. Overall good knife skills but needs work. Rolls the Nore did not meet or did not stay together this Was due to length/ if water was used to help the ends stick together. Semi uneven peice sizes but NOT Bad Presentation This can be done simply and elegantly with out having to stick but bundles of twigs, plastic flowers, plastic birds etc on the plate to fill it out and make it seem like there is more than there really is in the plate. Service Walked in seated quickly. Took a long time to order and both recieve the drinks. No drink menu was give so we had to ask alot of questions to finally get to what we wanted to know (this was painful much like pulling teeth). Now that I mention teeth the waiter had an overwhelming smell of aqua velvet, in a vein attempt to cover up some other smells (an fortunate swing and a miss). overall service was not the worst I have seen so far this year. With a total of 3 tables and a few at the sushi bar and at least 4 people working the floor there was an opportunity to do more and push the envelope. Building Not in bad shape but not in great shape. All of the tables are the worse for wear, bathrooms have an unfortunate stale smell to them (yes I know what happens in there but air fresheners are great things) the host stand/register/menu holder/candy stand /what ever else fits was a mess and kind of off putting. But the best bit was watching a lady walk in and say I left my card here and the staff not even ask for her name. Let alone check her ID before handing it over to them. By the fish tank by the front door there is an odd smell (also off putting).
Overall rating of whole experiance 4/10 mostly because of the BAD fish which any sushi chef worth his salt would of noticed straight away. That most definitely did not just go bad. In the time it took...
Read moreThis is the first restaurant I have been to in Columbus, and boy has the bar been set high!
I liked their interior decoration and the layout of the booths and tables. There was a booth or walkway between the other groups, and I really appreciated the attention to keeping customers safe. The music was familiar, and screens played of the current football game from most of the walls of the restaurant. I especially liked the art of the woman in the kimono on the back wall.
I went here with family, and the waitress, Bella, was attentive and gave us recommendations for what is popular on the menu. She spoke highly of the Lady Gaga Roll and the Mermaid roll, but we only ordered the latter with the rest of our order.
The food was delicious! The sushi was fresh! The fried food was warm and crunchy! The plum wine was light and a little smoky- absolutely delightful!
My family mentioned that day was my birthday, and Bella surprised all of us with a small platter of frozen strawberry mochi drizzled with chocolate with a candle burning on top at the end of the meal.
This really was a wonderful end to my birthday, and I am glad I spent it at Wasabi with their wonderful staff! I will definitely...
Read moreWe were just going to walk away and “don’t come back” as we were told by our waiter, but our experience was worth a share. Despite the unpleasant smell at the door (should have known better), we proceeded to order from the sushi menu and an appetizer. Our food tasted fine, until we found a hair in it. We alerted our waiter to the hair and his reply was “I’ve never seen this hair” or “you ate all of it”. Out of 3 $12 rolls, only ate maybe 6 pieces and immediately stopped when finding the hair. He picked up the hair, put it back on the plate and stared at us. He did not offer any solution but that we should still pay and that he would tell the chef. We politely requested our check for the appetizer and the appetizer only. He spoke with chef who presumably informed him to charge us for the appetizer. With a horrible attitude, he told us to pay now. We did and he said “thank you, have a good day, and don’t come back.” The food wasn’t bad at all but the service was...
