The Great American Pub, a living hell in the heart of Conshohocken. Itâs been said to always begin a criticism with a compliment if possible; a tall order regarding the Great American Pub in Conshohocken. Nevertheless, Iâll meet the challenge by conceding that this restaurant has floors, tables and chairs. From there it takes a sharp downturn. Last Saturday evening (Oct. 21, 2017) my husband and I met a group of extended family members at the Pub for a small reunion, and to welcome 2 cousins from abroad. A seating area had been reserved for the gathering of approximately 30 people. When four or five people had been added two weeks prior to the event, the restaurant said they could only accommodate a group this size by serving a buffet at $20 a head. (i.e.: no wait staff, thus no open menu ordering). As most buffets at comparable restaurants run $10-$15, we figured one this pricey would be superb, with plenty of choices. We ordered a drink at the bar and for $7.50 each. (Alcoholic drinks were not included in the mandatory buffet, though soda was). We received less than a third of a glass of cheap red house wine; marginally acceptable at an upscale, trendy establishment in a big city, NOT at a small town watering hole/family nosh pit. We joined the line for dinner only to find exactly five items on the so-called buffet; Kaiser rolls, pork slabs, lettuce pieces with some kind of dressing, ziti and green beans. (The fifth item was horse radish). Figuring this was just the start of more to come, we sat down. The pork and green beans were cold and tasteless as was the ziti (which had the tired mushy consistency of yesterdayâs leftovers). The lettuce was warm and wilted. (The horse radish was okay). A limited dessert tray appeared, however, it was far from âall-you-can-eatâ as there was not enough for even half the group to have one serving. Needless to say this was an outrageous price for such a limited choice and poorly done, at that. As if the âmealâ werenât bad enough, our âprivateâ space included the public bar, replete with shouting football fans watching the increasingly loud TV. We were barely able to hold conversations throughout most of the evening. The elderly people in the group found conversing impossible. Furthermore, our space had no discernible demarcation from the other non-group patrons, many of whom wandered in throughout the evening, availing themselves of free soda included in the buffet. (To their credit, they had no desire touch the buffet). In the entire restaurant, there is only one, mirrorless unisex bathroom. One. Room. For an entire restaurant, with a bar. Having to accommodate so many people continuously, the bathroom is unavoidable filthy. As a final note, the $20 price tag included an %18 gratuity! There was NO server. That was the whole point!!! (Iâll save my general comments regarding this tasteless and pathetic practice; a clear indication the establishment doesnât trust its own quality, thus needing to extort additional money from dissatisfied customers to âInsure Prompt Serviceâ.). Aside from floors and chairs, The Great American Pub has not one redeeming quality. Never...
Read moreI have never felt more disrespected at a restaurant than I did at the Great American Pub tonight. I felt like it would be nice to get out and enjoy a night out with the warm weather we had, so I scheduled reservations for 2... outdoors. We were told we were to go to the rooftop, we like the rooftop and enjoy the atmosphere. When we were seated, we were asked if we heard about the ordering process, we did not. Apparently we were requested to call down into the restaurant to place the order. I was frustrated because no-one had told us that prior, but I obliged. I placed the order and then was told, oh that will be 45 minutes. Okay..... I'm even more annoyed now because the wait is long, but we stayed to have a few drinks and waited out the food. When it came time to walk downstairs to pick up the food the female bartender told me "oh we don't have cheesesteak egg rolls haha" even more frustrating that she laughed in my face about it. She then proceeded to check on my food. After she came back she asked again what it was I ordered and her response again was "oh we don't have burgers HAHAHAHA". Again very disrespected as we have now waited over an hour just to be laughed at that they don't have our food. Oh and management, I am sure the CDC and the BBB would love to know that your bartender's aren't wearing masks inside the restaurant, so maybe you should fix...
Read moreI gave this place a good food rating because the food & draft drinks are on point! I love the draft cocktail concept. The rooftop is awesome and sometimes the bar staff is great. Why I rated the service low is because every weekend I sit at the roof bar and see the manager (I think her name is Angelina?) sheâs super nice and always checking in with people, but when she talks to some of the staff they just donât listen and start talking about her behind her back when she leaves because thereâs âno accountabilityâ here and âsurprise we donât have something in stockâ As someone who also works in the service industry its super degrading to hear people have no respect for their management and have the active manager constantly looking exasperated about helping people. Itâs normal things arenât always in stock!!! I honestly feel bad for the girl. The bartenders on the roof seem like such a petty group and just drink the entire time they are bartending and the one blonde girl on the weekends is really rude. Either way if stuff like that doesnât bother you, itâs a great place to be. Throw the chef, manager, and security team some props because they have it figured out. If you want a good bar or server experience, go elsewhere! ...
