El Limon is our go-to Mexican place. We first got attracted to this place as we were seated at the restaurant across the street (Chiangmai) and having dinner. On impulse, we were checking reviews of places close-by and El Limon stood out in having very high ratings. A few weeks later, we came back to the area - this time to El Limon and were very impressed with the quality and value of the food here. I ordered a Cubana sandwich which went for the princely amount of $8.50 and was very filling and perfectly done. My wife went with a Alambre with mixtos - a variety of different meats + shrimp. It was lip-smacking delicious. The portions of the alambre were also so substantial that we took a fair bit of it home and enjoyed it later on.
Since then we have been here twice and - just to give you a sense of how much I have enjoyed the cubana - I have ordered it on both occasions. My wife has had the alambre once and the fajitas on another occasion and both of us have been happy with those food choices. Given that my Indian taste buds are used to significant spice levels, I have had to use some of their spicy sauces that are on the counter but with those added in, I have found the flavor profiles excellent.
As the decor of the place and menu prices will tell you, this isn't trying to be a fancy sit-down place and so when it comes to service, there isn't much too much to write about. However, the servers appear friendly and are happy to oblige with requests.
The reason for taking off a star is the slightly ridiculous prices on the additions. Last night my wife requested guacamole and cheese on the side with her fajitas and from what i remember, a small cup of guac (the size in which you might have some ketchup served to you) was $2.50 and a similar-sized cup for cheese was $2.00 - those prices seem a little insane and out of place with the rest of their pricing. Also, while I have always gone back for the cubana, I feel as though I enjoyed it the most the first time around and on the last two visits, I have enjoyed it a tad less. In particular, I like my food to be served hot and my sandwich buns to be nicely toasted, and I felt that the sandwich had achieved both to a greater extent the first time I had ordered it.
These comments notwithstanding - El Limon rocks and is an excellent choice for great, inexpensive Mexican food. We see ourselves going there on many occasions...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped at this location one Sunday evening after placing an order online for pick-up. When we arrived, the server acted as if she hadn't noticed us after around 6 min and the place had 2 couples/tables that were seated, I cleared my throat a bit and she asked what would I like to order. I then mentioned it was an online order. At that moment she stated "it not ready" and walked away. I then called out to her to provide the name . She repeated herself and kept going. While waiting and talking to my husband not really paying much attention, we noticed another woman stand up and go behind the counter and began speaking to the men that were gathered, in spanish. These men then turned around and began cooking. By the time they finished cooking a few orders orders, the women came up and showed us a bag that was not ours; based off of the name on the receipt stuck to the bag. She then said "well its not here!" while everyone behind the counter gathered around. So I then reached for my phone to check the order to make sure that it was placed for the correct location, and while reaching the server walked out from behind the counter yelling very loudly, while waving her hands, that "I don't know what resteraunt you THINK you order from but you ain't order from here!" I was so shocked, my husband said for us to come on and go. Even if we had purchased food from there we certainly didn't want it now, and we would cancel the online order. Once we returned to the car I searched my phone for the order, and it showed the purchase hadn't gone through due to some error on the site we placed the order through. I was so relieved to know I wasn't supporting such bad behavior. I could care less how reasonnable the prices are when your making up for it in attitude, (high cost for a burrito), I liked going to el limone and would have liked to keep supporting this business, but after experiencing that type of treatment, I will not be going back to this location again. In fact, I believe we will go elsewhere for our food outings all together. Sadly this treatment left such a bad taste in my mouth, and if I could give a negative star for service,...
Read moreComplementary maragaritas are a big plus! (They are not very strong, but that's to be expected.) While they don't have the complementary chips & salsa that I've come to expect at Mexican restaurants, I consider Margaritas-for-chips to be a more than adequate trade! That said, non-drinkers and families with children aren't really going to get full value here. As a vegan, I found a real lack of options on the menu, but a cheerful willingness by the servers & kitchen to accommodate me. Vegetarians, on the other hand, should be 100% fine – plenty of veggie options if you don't mind cheese and sour cream. Portions were reasonable – not huge, but definitely adequate. I definitely recommend ordering appetizers and/or sides, since they are very affordable and you're not going to get the ridiculously huge entree platters that are common elsewhere. As for entrees, the tacos are an excellent deal with plenty of options and delightful fixings. I had the sopas, which were similarly tasty. I'm not going to pretend that it's uniquely "authentic" or "gourmet," but it's accessible, tasty, and a good value. In terms of spiciness, they tend towards the mild side. Spice-o-phobes should be fine. People who like some kick, such as myself, should be satisfied that their hot salsas are noticeably spicy... but true fire-freaks are going to be sorely disappointed. They also don't provide hot sauce by default, I noticed, so I'm guessing that they are far more concerned about catering to blander tastes... which is totally logical, given their location in suburban PA. I really appreciated how friendly, welcoming, and helpful the servers were. It was a really nice, friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere. Efficient, but not brusque or bustling. The selection of real-sugar sodas – including Jarritos and Mexican Coke – is...
