Introduction: My boyfriend and I came here for the first time.
Experience: The experience was nice.
Welcome: The hostess greeted up with a smile and cheery attitude. Luke our waiter was wonderful. He brought us our water a few minutes after we sat down. He gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. We ordered our drinks and appetizers. Our appetizers came out about 6-8 minutes after we ordered them. When he returned with our appetizers, we were ready to order our entrรฉes. In about 15 minutes our meals were brought out to us by the waiter not someone in the kitchen. When I saw my food, I couldnโt believe how much food was on the charcuterie board, which by the way was a nice unique alternative to serve your food on.
Ambiance: The restaurant was clean with dim lighting. There is a lit candle on the table. There is a chalkboard on the wall that list upcoming events and hours of operation. Live music (played at a romantic level) while you eat, always a nice added touch and also one of the reasons we chose this restaurant.
Food: Dined in Appetizers: Cheesesteak egg rolls were hot and filled with meat which was stuffed inside a crispy egg roll. The mushroom and pesto flatbread was hot and cut into small pizza like slices. Both items were delicious! They also have a great drink menu with a fair variety of drinks.
Entrรฉe: I ordered the Build Your Own Grill Plate: bbq brisket, smoked mac&cheese, and sweet potato fries which came with a vanilla bourbon cream. I requested to make the bbq sauce spicy(for my brisket), but due to the way it is cooked they were unable to fulfill that request however, the waiter said he would get me a side of voodoo (delicious) sauce. The mac&cheese was delicious served hot! One of the things I really liked was the mac&cheese remained hot throughout my dining. I received four nice size slices of brisket. The vanilla cream that came with the fries was good, but I think my boyfriend liked it more than I did ๐. My boyfriend ordered 1st Ave Burger. The burger had pimento cheese on. It was his the first time eating pimento cheese and he liked it. The burger was a nice size, and it came with French fries as the side. He said he liked his food. Our drinks came in mason glasses which was another added unique touch.
Price: The quality of the food was superb and the quantity was satisfying, which made all of our food worth the price!
Will return: We will most certainly be returning. We truly enjoyed our overall dining experience.
Stars: I give it 5 stars.
Tip: Come in with a hearty appetite and enjoy your dining experience at affordable prices. A nice place for a date as long as your significant other is not afraid to eat.
Thank you Luke for being an awesome waiter and way to go Southern Cross Kitchen for tasty delicious food, good music, and a wonderful first experience ๐!
I apologize a couple of the pictures came out blurred. I will make sure I check the pictures in the future to ensure they are all...
ย ย ย Read moreOur party of 5 went on a Sunday morning to celebrate a birthday.
Our party had: Appetizers: Fried chicken nachos (the best), Deviled eggs (tasty) cheesesteak egg roll (fine) beignets (ok)
Entrees breakfast burrito - fine Green tomato BLT w/ onion rings - fine Fish and grits (fish was friend then covered in roumelade, so it was soggy) Shrimp and grits (decent flavor, loved the grits) Chicken and waffle (chicken was lightly seasoned with salt and pepper.. definitely not overly delicious.. just meh)
We also had the mimosa tower.
The food was okay, nothing to write home about and nothing that would make me come back.. Service was middling at best. None of the staff has smiles, none of them seemed particularly happy to be there, and it felt like we were rushed to order entrees at the same time we were ordering apps. Everything was served hot and fresh and appetizing.
The mimosa tower was cute, not particularly strong or delicious or special.. but easy to serve!
I assume there was a 90 minute time limit because at 91 minutes, check having just been paid, with one of our party in the bathroom (the one that needed to sign the check) and we were told that we were at the end of our time as we were holding up people who were waiting for our table. I'm used to 2 hours, but if that's their policy then it's not a place that I want to come for brunching definitely. During the meal we were thinking about another Mimosa Tower but good thing we didn't because there would have not been enough time to drink it. One our of folks had to take her final glass as a shot since we needed to depart ASAP.
Regarding atmosphere, it was extremely loud. Music blaring with awkward acoustics that made it feel like the tables to our side or rear were shouting in our ears but we could barely hear each other at normal conversation tones.
Overall, nothing I would recommend or...
ย ย ย Read moreFirst time here for brunch and Iโm speechless! We were celebrating my boyfriends birthday and we ordered mimosas, after noticing a gentlemen seated after me getting his coffee and then a mimosa after he was done his mimosa I had to ask my waitress where ours were and she said sorry and went and got them. We ordered our meals I asked for no aioli my boyfriends father ordered a side of pancakes. My sandwhich came with aoli on it I was so hungry I didnโt bother to say anything, and when they served his plate the ketchup dish was sitting on his egg and almost spilled over it until I grabbed it. As I finished my food my boyfriend father had to remind the waitress of the pancakes. Again we go Iโm sorry. We all had eyes bigger than our stomach and combined all of our leftovers of potatoes a buiscuit pancake scrapple and an over medium egg and my boyfriend had left over scrambled eggs. We combined it all on one plate and when the waitress came she said how was it we said it was good can we have this boxed. We waited a while, and after some time goes by we asked her where our food was and for the check she says โoh you wanted that boxedโ. Iโm literally speechless why would I sit there and combine a big plate of Food to one plate of we were just discarding it!!!! Well they brought us out one egg over medium and a pancake, I guess that makes that better. When my boyfriends mom got the check then we were left no pen. Being in the service industry I was appallled as the manager, or looked like the manager didnโt say anything and that was our compensation after our food was thrown away! Needless to say never returning! Terrible management as he just stood behind us talking to another table! It was the worst service I think I ever had! I hope she was new in...
