So I was very excited to come here for dinner with my husband yesterday. Last time I was there was 5 years ago and it was so good that I went 3 times. We had a young French waiter who was fabulous- great personality, efficient and incredibly knowledgeable. I was hoping he would have been there but sadly no. 5 years later and I have to see we received what was likely the worst service we've ever had anywhere. The lady at the front desk seated us and didn't so much as welcome us in or crack a smile. We sat for about 10 minutes before she came to the table. We ordered drinks and she forgot my husband's beer. Basically the only thing she said to us was that there was a lamb chop special. Some young guy brought our bread and appetizers. Mind you it wasn't busy- just one other party of 8 seated. She took our entree order and again basically said nothing- no recommendations or suggestions. She was simply an order taker. The young man brought our entrees and after that our server never came back to check on us. She just stood at the front desk. I wanted a glass of cab to go with my beef bourginon but she never came back as my first glass sat empty. I had to go to the desk and ask her for it. She never cleared our plates. I had to go to her again and ask for a dessert menu and once again to ask for the check. This was ridiculous! I've been in the restaurant business for 40 years, currently working at Anthony's in Gig Harbor and couldn't even ever imagine giving such indifferent service. I will add the positive- the food was outstanding as it was 5 years ago. Thank you for that. The plate presentations are beautiful! I even have friends coming there on Saturday. I just hope they don't get this particular server. It would be a complete embarrassment to me. A little training would go a long way. I always guide my guests through the menu, making recommendations and suggestions always with a friendly upbeat demeanor. Good food alone is not enough. Service is of the utmost importance. I may come again but I would definitely request a different server. She really ruined what should have been a nice...
Read moreI cannot say enough about this fantastic eatery. The atmosphere is cozy and charming. It is a “bistro” so do not be intimidated about the cuisine. This is how you would dine at a cafe in some small French or Alsatian village. The prices are reasonable, or perhaps really really reasonable considering the quality of the food.
The Alsace region of France is at the border of Germany. Salzburg, the Capital of the area is considered the Gateway to Eastern Europe. Known for its textiles, wine and dairy, the Alsatian area is an area rich in history and culture. The Citron showcases the regions vast repertoire in the selection of food and wine, beers and ciders.
My husband and I joined the patrons and staff for our Thanksgiving dinner. At 8:00P.M., the place was jumping. We shared the cheese selection for starters and both ordered the Wild Boar with mushrooms for our entrees. We paired these with a nice bottle of bordeaux. The cheeses were tasty and rich, served with slices of baguette that was crusty on the outside and light and airy inside, as only the French can create. The entree came with the signature melange of vegetables; carrot, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower and yam, each cooked a dente’. The vegetables always amaze me as to present each of these cooked to its own perfection speaks of magic in the kitchen. The boar served with a rich reduction sauce was wunderbar! Then, desert with a big mug of coffee. The offerings all the way through the meal are candidates for a cover shot on any foody magazine.
This is a restaurant to be enjoyed any day of the week (not Sunday or Monday) and is a must to celebrate the end of the Covid shutdown. You will...
Read moreWonderful! Ate at Citron for a second time last night, and it was just as fantastic as our first visit. The food is consistently yummy, with classic-but-unstuffy European dishes and ambience. We tried a large assortment of French, German, and French-German (Alsatian) dishes, and were very happy with all of them. Love the atmosphere and decor – clean, cheery, understated sophistication. It’s perfect for the full range of spur-of-the-moment casual to special occasion dining. Unpretentious but outstanding attention from the wait staff (and chef!) made our visit very special. The Alsatian Tarte appetizer is going to be my choice of entrée next time; my husband “can’t stand” olives or onions, yet LOVED them as components of this perfectly executed (and generous) dish of complex and perfectly balanced flavors. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Here’s some advice that’s very important: you owe it to yourself to order the bread - I can't even describe how good it is - just order it, trust me! Reasonable prices considering the quality of the food, with several very affordable but delicious choices. If this restaurant is a bit out of the way for you, you’ll find it’s worth the drive! I know we'll be...
