Pre Covid close down, this location was one of our favorite places to eat. So much so that we would drive an hour just to go there. After this weeks experience though, my husband and I both vowed not to come back. So much went wrong with our night that we could not even chalk it up to "pandemic growing pains."
The first issue we had was the front of house staff. We were not greeted or even looked at, the only acknowledgement we received was a nod and "what's up". We let the hostess know we would like a table for two and we were told it would be about 15 minutes. No big deal, though the place was empty. A few minutes later the hostess returns and was audibly arguing about one of the servers to another hostess. The back and forth conversation was very unprofessional and language was not appropriate. The hostess then proceeds to have the same argument with the owner/manager right up front in the waiting area and again, very loudly is yelling about another server and hostess. The management, instead of taking the conversation elsewhere continues letting the hostess yell in front of all these guests. After about 10 minutes of this, the manager finally brings the hostess to the office (which is attached to the waiting area) and continues to yell at her. The waiting room is filled with guests at this point and all were mumbling about how awkward this interaction was and how there is now no one up at the front to help guests.
Once we were taken to our table, we noticed that the previous cloth napkins, tableware, and table cloths had all been replaced by a paper mat. Not a big deal. Then, my wine came out in a paper cup and we were given Styrofoam and paper utensils to eat on. I asked why my $7 drink was being delivered in Styrofoam and the waitress literally shrugged and walked away. Our food took forever to arrive. My husband ordered Orange Chicken and I was served twice before he received his food. The waitress kept saying "I see it sitting in the back" but never grabbed it? It came out cold and rubbery from sitting for over an hour. The sushi was terrible. The rolls were warm and the ingredients tasted old and un-fresh. A roll that I ordered I asked to modify due to allergies and not only did it finally arrive wrong, but also had a lot of other ingredients on it that were not listed on the menu. I kindly asked the server for a replacement (they have a waste policy charge) and somehow her already extremely poor attitude became worse. She continued to argue with me about the mistake and kept talking over me saying "I did not hear you." Even my patient husband was fed up. Finally after two hours and leaving hungry, we paid and left, taking our business elsewhere for the evening.
I am saddened that after Covid this place went so downhill. It has the potential to be so much better, as...
Read moreTook my daughter out for her birthday, and the service was the worst I’ve ever had anywhere in a very long time. We placed our orders at the hibachi grill with the waitress, and then we waited 25-30 minutes for the chef to come out. That could have been overlooked, but when he finally got to the table, he started flipping spatulas around, dropped one on the floor, had to leave the table to wash It, but that was just the beginning. (speculating here but he low key looked under the influence of something) he then proceeded to squirt water at everyone and it got on my daughter’s shirt. (See photo) (she was annoyed) Also the waitress was very inattentive to our table leaving menus sitting around the whole time we were eating, and never offered to refill anyone’s drink. We had to try to find table space for our drinks because there were so many menus / dishes on the table. We had to ask every time we needed a refill. Every time. We had to clear our own dishes because they sat there so long. Yes we stacked them up and put them to the side. Is this normal for this place? We moved them to the side to make room because apparently she did not notice the empty cups and dirty dishes. Especially not worth the price of their menu. It came out to about $20 per person before tip. The food wasn’t terrible, but certainly wasn’t great. It was decent but the steak was chewey and the soy sauce seemed to be watered down. I never did get a little bowl to put soy sauce in for my sushi. I waited so long for it I just decided to pour soy sauce all over my sushi and not worry about it. You will not find very many negative comments from me online. I give praise where it is due and love to support local businesses. This was just bad. I will never go to Koizi again. First time and last time. On top of all this, the place just feels dirty. Sticky chairs, sticky menus, table top, dark, the build up on the hibachi grill back side was disgusting. I just had a very poor experience all around. My daughter was apologizing for suggesting this place for her birthday. She should not be feeling like that. When you take your family out for dinner, you expect it to be a good experience. Not this time. It was a comical ride home though talking about the lousy service. Koizi needs to train their people better or hire better...
Read moreFirst and only time going. We had a large party celebrating a birthday and they were great about getting us in last minute. The hibachi chef was fun and entertaining overall, but at times a little too inappropriate as not everyone in our party was an adult. Also, their kids menu is by the child’s height which is unfortunate for those of us blessed with tall kids.
I’ve been to many hibachi places and a couple of “all you can eat” sushi/hibachi spots, but I have never had one nickel and dime quite like this one. Their menu gives the option of endless or “a la cart”. Knowing my daughter and I have never been able to finish our plates whenever we go to hibachi, we attempted to opt for the a la cart and just get the hibachi, but they refused to allow that as an option and basically told us that we didn’t have a choice and had to have the endless due to other people in our party having endless- this was not communicated or outlined on their menu in any shape or form. Three other people in our party didn’t vocalize they were only wanting a la cart and they simply ordered their meals as they would at any restaurant. When it came time to pay, half the party was quiet and confused as to why they were charged so much when they only had chicken hibachi- the server explained to them what she explained to me when I had ordered. We asked if they could make an exception as no one was sharing food or got extras etc… they asked the manager who was quick to say no so half our party was basically forced to pay at least $10 more than what was initially expected.
Now on to the actual food: The hibachi lacked in flavor compared to other places I’ve been and the ginger salad is a mayonnaise based ginger dressing, which I personally do not like. As for the sushi- I don’t know what they were serving, but it was not sushi- the spicy tuna was slightly sweet instead of the traditional spicy I’m accustomed to and incredibly mushy, almost like a tuna paste instead of actual tuna. Another person in our party said the spicy salmon was exactly the same. So definitely not the place to go if you are wanting decent sushi (Publix sushi is 5 stars compared to this place).
Overall, we had some laughs and weird memories for overpriced subpar hibachi and I don’t even think they can really call it “sushi”. Needless to say, but we will...
