7/24/24 - 2nd visit - we got to sit outside on the deck today. The breeze was fabulous as the sun went down. Again, service was good, food was terrific. I had the roast turkey sandwich. HUGE! I ate what I could and took the rest home. Husband had the Cheese Steak Sub. He really enjoyed his as well. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 7/19/24 - First, let me say, it starts at the top. And the lady who greeted us at the door has GOT to be the top. She was warm, lovely, kind. And I watched every single person on the staff at this place - they were exactly the same way to each other and she to them. Gosh, I can NOT remember ever coming to a place where this happened...EVER. They said excuse me and thank you as they helped each other serve the customers. And they were BUSY. And every time the manager walked thru she helped and said thank you to each person on staff. Each customer, including us, was treated like a friend coming to dinner. I really am just so impressed and touched! Oh and yes, the food was so delicious! My husband had the Prosciutto and Herb sandwich with onion rings (I stole one - yum!). He enjoyed an Oban whiskey with his dinner as well. I had the most beautiful Chicken Pot Pie - that CRUST!! We will be back to sit on the deck so we can view the mountains! This place is so adorable. I look forward to seeing the rest. It goes on and on! And we didn't even go in the cute bar area this time. Next time - as my husband spied all the other whiskeys they had! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️(3.5) Upon entering May Kelly's cottage, the first impression may seem a bit disappointing. The establishment appears to be in need of some refurbishment, and the condition of the floor could be improved. However, it's important to remember that sometimes appearances can be deceiving, and there may still be positive aspects to discover within. The décor isn’t align with the stereotypical Irish theme that one might expect, but it's essential to appreciate the uniqueness and individuality that May Kelly's cottage brings to the table. Sometimes, stepping away from the traditional can lead to unexpected surprises and a fresh approach to ambiance. Let’s get to the food. Appetizer: May's Potato Cakes at May Kelly's cottage are an absolute treat for the taste buds. These delectable cakes are crafted with a perfect blend of mashed potato, scallions, cheese, and bacon. The combination of these ingredients creates a symphony of flavors that is both comforting and indulgent. One of the highlights of these potato cakes is the impeccable cooking technique. Lightly floured and fried to a golden perfection, they are then oven-baked to ensure a crispy exterior while maintaining a soft and creamy interior. This careful preparation truly elevates the dish to a whole new level. The presentation of the potato cakes is equally impressive. Served over a bed of dressed baby spinach, they create a visually appealing dish that instantly whets the appetite. The creamy horseradish sauce adds a tangy and zesty element that perfectly complements the richness of the potato cakes. Dinner: Our experience at dinner left much to be desired, particularly in regards to the food we ordered. We opted for the Classic Grilled Reuben, a beloved sandwich that has the potential to be a flavorful delight. However, what arrived at our table was a disappointing rendition of this classic dish. The first issue we encountered was with the corned beef. Instead of being tender and succulent, it was dry and lacking in flavor. The lack of moisture made each bite a struggle, and it was clear that the beef had not been prepared with care or attention to detail. Furthermore, the sauerkraut was noticeably lacking in tanginess, a crucial element in balancing the richness of the sandwich. Its lackluster taste left the overall flavor profile of the Reuben feeling flat and uninspiring. The cheese was perfectly melted, but the its portion size its portion size was also commendable. The sandwich was generously filled with ample layers of swish cheese, ensuring every bite had a delightful cheesiness that made the Reuben truly delightful. As for the Russian dressing, it was barely noticeable. The lack of any discernible flavor from the dressing left the sandwich feeling dry and lacking the necessary moisture to enhance the other ingredients. The side of steak fries did not fare any better. They were clearly overcooked and lacked the desired crispness. Instead, they were greasy and unappetizing, leaving a heavy and unpleasant aftertaste. Overall: While the potato cakes were truly exceptional, the underwhelming Reuben and fries left a lot to be desired. However, May Kelly's cottage has demonstrated their ability to create standout dishes with the potato cakes, and it is worth giving their other offerings a chance. With their evident culinary prowess, it is likely that May Kelly's cottage can improve upon the areas that currently fall short.

This is a true hidden gem in North Conway and we were so happy to have stumbled upon it. Their true Irish pub decor and ambiance, as well as stunning views of the mountains(if you dine out on the patio) make for a wonderful experience. Add in the delicious traditional Irish fare and you will see why we coin May Kelly’s a gem! They are family friendly as well and have open seating both inside and outside and they do take reservations. We did not happen to have any but got there just as they were opening for dinner and lucked out with a great table. My favorite part of the meal had to be the giant crock of French onion soup, it was just the right amount of salty, slight sweetness, with a robust base. The Caesar salad with Irish whiskey steak tips were cooked just right. Finished off with an amazing basil infused with muddled berries vodka drink and my night was complete. This place is a must try if you are in the area and are looking for a great meal in a really fun environment.

The food was perfect. Let me be clear, I have a LOT of food sensitivities and allergies, therefore it is very hard to avoid making me sick or having a reaction. This establishment is very well informed and takes great care in ensuring the safety of their patrons. Our server brought out an actual binder including ALL ingredients in every dish. I had the fresh pear amd goat cheese salad to start. The greens were perfectly cleaned, crisp and lovely. The pear was ripe and juicy, the goat cheese was savory and delicate. I also ordered a burger with cheddar, lettuce and mayo on toasted brioche. This was perhaps the best burger that I have ever had. I was astonished at the flavor, soft juicy texture and the soft, slightly sweet bun. Even the pot of tea with wildflower honey was the stuff that dreams are made of. I will 100% be coming back. The staff, the decor, and the food are top of the line without breaking the bank.

I was genuinely excited to see their Shepherd’s Pie is made with lamb (as it should be; beef makes it “cottage pie.”) (Shepherd : sheep herder), but my appetite wasn’t strong enough to order the full size. Fortunately the Irish Sampler is basically the perfect size dinner for that scenario. It has chicken pot pie, May’s Irish stew, and the aforementioned shepherd’s pie. Well, to me astonishment, May’s stew was the big winner of the three. I enjoyed them all, but the stew here is really exceptional. Many Irish pubs go for a more brothy stew. (I suspect this is a quantity preference. Make the stew go further?) This one has a proper stew consistency and was really wonderful. The whisky menu is impressive, but the beer selection is a bit obvious and minimal. Very glad we came. The decor is wonderful. The service was great, the food was great, the kid’s menu is affordable and covers the bases.

I was exhausted after a long day of travel and sightseeing, and was hoping to pick up dinner and eat it at the hotel. Unfortunately they weren't doing pickup orders that evening, so I made the decision to head over (about a 5 minute drive from my hotel) and I'm so happy I did! The staff was incredibly welcoming, and I loved the historic decor. The restaurant was not noisy, and there was no wait for a table. I ordered the Taste of Ireland dish (it's listed under appetizers, but has nicely sized portions). The chicken pot pie had the flakiest pastry on top and large chunks of chicken inside, and the authentic shepherd's pie had a lovely cheesy crust on top. My favorite part of the meal was the beef stew, the beef was so soft and tender and the biscuit on top was to die for! This restaurant should be at the top of your dining list if you're ever in North Conway.
