Very relieved we didn't read reviews before giving this place a try. If we did, we might have just skipped it all together. And then we would have missed out on not one, not two, but THREE great meals here, because that's how good it was, we came back three times in one weekend.
We accidently came up during a 3-day-weekend, so it was busier than we were hoping it would be, heading up in the off-season. We stopped by for lunch, first. Wait was only 20 mins, which is phenomenal for a 3-day-weekend up in North Conway. [Had to chuckle at the woman who complained that a 30 minute wait was "so long" - IT'S NOT. In North Conway, even a decade before COVID, it was not unusual to wait 1.5-2 HOURS for a table at a restaurant, so yeah, 30 mins is nothing...] Our server was fast yet super attentive & friendly. Our food was fantastic. Hummus platter, burgers, beer. My veggie burger was so tasty & made by hand; honestly the best I've had at a restaurant! (& that includes vegan & veg-friendly restaurants)
We were so happy with that lunch, we went back for a late lunch/early dinner two days later. Turns out it was happy hour! We got another hummus plate & I got another veggie burger, my husband tried something different - their wings. All really good. Our server was different, I think he was also the bartender, but he was super fast while also being very friendly & attentive.
THEN we went back AGAIN the next day for a late lunch before heading home. I got the haddock tacos (🤤) & we got another hummus plate. My husband tried the pulled pork nachos. All 3 days I got brussel sprouts for my side; if you love garlic & brussel sprouts, you HAVE to try their brussel sprouts... 🤤 Again, I think our server was also the bartender but he was still super attentive, fast, & friendly!!
Super impressed with this place. All 3 times we were there the food was phenomenal, the service (all 3 different servers) was above & beyond even when the restaurant was very busy/they were doing multiple jobs, we got a good amount of food & good quality too for the money, & we left pleasantly full & happy. We're definitely adding this restaurant to our incredibly short list of places we LOVE LOVE LOVE up in...
Read moreWhen we walked in, the hostess asked if we had any allergies. I told her I had an allergy to shellfish (lucky me on the east coast, right?). I did mention that the reaction is when I consume the food and not by the smell to which she said "so it's not a real allergy, you're just a picky eater". I should have turned around and walked out, but my wife said let's just sit back and try to enjoy supper. So we stayed. Our waiter asked if anyone had allergies, and I told him the same thing I told the hostess. He assured me that as long as I stay away from ordering what I'm allergic to I will be fine. So I ordered the Philly cheesesteak with fries. After placing the order, he comes back and says he doesn't think I should have fries since any fish they fry is in the same basket as french fries. So I changed my side to a pasta salad. (But it did make me think about the grills they use later on - if the fryers are the same, are they cooking shellfish on the same surfaces as the meats?) When my meal arrived, it had fries. I told the woman who brought it out that it was changed to the pasta salad and she said our waiter never told anyone. So she took my plate back and 15 minutes later my food finally arrived. I don't know if they walked to Walmart to buy more pasta salad or what happened, but it's not fun sitting there while someone else is eating and no one knows how much longer it will take to serve my pasta salad because "there's other people ahead of me". My food did come out, it was ok, but the sandwich was cold as the pasta salad, and I didn't dare send it back again probably because I knew I'd still be waiting hours later. Please, if you or anyone you know has an allergy take a look elsewhere. Your health is more important than any dinner...
Read moreGarbage experience. Was carded when we sat down, he accepted them and moved on (he was nice/fine). A little while later, a different waiter comes over- short, with dark hair and facial hair, and asks for our id’s again, and my cousin explains we were already carded. He says sorry, but asks for them anyway. This one doesn’t accept my passport, as it is a little over a year expired. Where I am from, in Southern NH, I have never had an issue with it being expired. But that was the second, out of 3 establishments up here that refused to serve me. While it is absurd (because whether it’s expired or not, the government has verified my age), I understood it is policy. What miffed me was my cousin was enjoying her drink and he tells us minors have to leave in 9 minutes. For one, I am not a minor, and for another, I wasn’t drinking. His excuse was if the alcohol commissioner showed up he’d be in trouble as I don’t have a valid ID. I’ve never seen it stated anywhere that you need a /valid/ ID, just an ID. After he tells us this, my cousin gets out her credit card, and we push our plates and glasses away. We wait and wait, and he never comes back to take the card, after he lectured us about having to leave soon. Eventually the nice waiter came back. Plus the fact that my chowder wasn’t even lukewarm. I didn’t finish. Anyhow, unless you enjoy poor service, uptight (not all) waiters, and cold food, I wouldn’t recommend this place. And in terms of uptightness, I wouldn’t recommend North Conway at all, but it is worth a visit for the cute...
