tl;dr: Found our sushi joint in Conyers, GA. On a scale of one to ten, a solid eight to nine. Have not tried tempura, hibachi, or non-Japanese items.
Original review was on 2018-01-27 but not published until after our second trip one month later.
We arrived about 5:30 on a Friday to find a relatively empty house and were seated immediately by a very friendly staff member. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio and an appetizer of steamed dumplings to begin. The wine was Blackstone Pinot Grigio, a dry, crisp white with apple and citrus overtones (maybe subtle, pineapple notes?), and the dumplings were delectable little bundles of savory pork goodness. Note that my bride especially LOVES dumplings - any kind, any cuisine - so, we've had pretty much every sort of dumpling there is from everywhere around the world. Kumo's dumplings were solid fare both texture and flavor.
For our main meal, we grazed sashimi, nigiri, and maki, starting with the sushi and sashimi dinner with a spicy tuna roll. The default meal would have come with a salad and miso soup, if served to one person, but our very charming waitress offered to allow us to have two soups or two salads, since we were sharing the dinner. We elected salads, and the ginger dressing was outstanding, more gingery than most with an acid edge - probably citrus - surprising and delightful on the tongue. The platter was a work of art that words will not serve properly to honor. That's a micro-greens and seaweed salad in the martini glass with a cascade of paper-thin sashimi overflowing the lip of the glass. Every piece of fish was perfect. The rice for the nigiri was a little less sticky than most I've had - neither a complaint nor praise, simply an observation. My sweetie remarked on her sense that the vinegar content of the rice seemed slightly higher, which she enjoyed.
A note on ginger...it's a palate-cleanser. It should not be pink. It should be a sweetly, tartly gingery bite that, when dipped in soy sauce, leaves the mouth fresh for the next bite. Job done.
The nigiri might have benefited from a touch of wasabi.
Not quite yet being full, having only shared an appetizer and one dinner plate, we placed ourselves in the chef's hands for a two-nigiri order and an eel and avocado roll. The chef chose to split the nigiri order as one salmon and one tuna, and I agree those were the strongest contenders. The eel was very good. We had one more two-piece order of salmon nigiri. The chef very slighly warmed the last two bites of nigiri, a presentation tweak new to me...outstanding.
We wrapped up the meal with a shared order of mochi and chilled, Fuji apple sake. Both of us could have died happy at that point.
They keep wait and bus staff perched around the perimeter of the dining room to observe and swoop in as needed. It's not intrusive, and our table was swept of empty serving dishes without our need to ask.
The decor is simple, modern, hip with Asian notes. Nothing detracts or distracts from the main business at hand, namely, enjoying good food.
Kumo's staff seem happy and proud of what they do. Rightfully so in my opinion.
Added 2018-02-27... I'd composed the preceding bits and saved it while waiting for my sweetie to forward the pics she'd snapped with her phone. She didn't get around to sending the snaps - I forgot to publish. Herewith, my repair.
Second visit was as good as the first. Staff remembered us for drink preferences and the like. We explored seaweed salad and spicy squid salad along with miso. All were very nice. The fried Gyoza (dumplings) were as tasty as they had been steamed and had that extra touch of caramelization from the additional frying...yum!
No doubt this is our sushi fix.
Added 2018-06-03 - - - - - - - - Had the Unagi Don (BBQ eel on a bed sushi rice) last night...YUM! Dessert was an a la carte order of nigiri, left to the chef's choice...artistically decorated tuna -...
Read moreA very busy place for evening dining. The food is good, a lot of people enjoying sushi, I'm not one for it but others were. It was hot when served, and better than average table service. The waiters were a little overwork by the crowd but like I said, it was busy. Unfortunately, 3 ladies in the booth next to ours, I call them food scamers, constantly complained one thing or other about their food. They were served substitute meals complimentary, and they complained about them. As that wasn't enough, they ask for take out boxes for the food they didn't seem to enjoy. Not even leaving a tip of any sort after eating ha of of two different meals and taking the remainder of the second one home with them. Before leaving they were barely scrapping enough money to pay for the balance difference. Why take it home if you didn't like it to stasrt with. They even offered us a 10% discount because the stake strips were a little more than medium. They try hard to please their customers even when they are getting ripped off. Yes we'll continue...

Menu Items: Eel Avocado Roll - small roll of eel and avocado topped with eel sauce. Would order again. Fire Island Roll - Great when you can't decide between Salmon or Tuna. This is like two rolls in one! Would order again. Stone Mountain Roll - This is the Roll to get if you want crab! The Roll is piled high with crab in spicy mayo. I normally don't like spicy mayo, but the generous crab makes it worthwhile. Tango Roll - This looks great on paper, but the flavor didn't stand out. It was good but tasted too plain. I would eat it if someone else ordered, but next time I'll try something new. Jalapeño Pepper - The tempura was really good and the jalapeño was fresh. There isn't much spicy tuna in these. Expect an upscale jalapeño popper, not a jalapeño...
