After arriving in Coos Bay and reading all the wonderful reviews of City Subs, my wife and I had to go try it out. Being avid grinder lovers we visit Subway on a, at least once a week basis. We were excited to think we would be getting a 'tasty, excellent, awesome, out of this world' hogey, only to have our hopes dashed among the rocks. During lunch on a Friday mid afternoon rush, there were only 3 people actually servicing the 'crowd' of hungry customers. Though the store was clean and tidy and the decor had a pleasing artsy feel to it, the service was lacking tremendously. The counter girl look over worked or hung over I don't know which for they look very similar. The man in the back working frantically to complete the orders definitely was cheerful, but needed a lot of help. Thinking I was going to receive a wonderful sandwich I overlooked all this. But, then it came. This wonderment of cuisine was more bread than filler. The reviews mentioned something about City Subs not cooking the bread to completion so that there is a soft center, however when you combine this style of bread with sauces such as mayonnaise or a vinegrette it only makes for a VERY soggy, dough-y bun. It tasted okay, no better or worse than Subway actually so this was a supreme let down. From being understaffed, overpriced, and basic quality food, it is not recommended by my family. ( unless you like to try and fit in with the upper echelon of society who chose this place so as not to be surrounded the local riff-raff ). You can get the same quality of sandwich with faster service and a cheaper price. However, if you are the type that would rather sacrifice cost, quality of food, and service for atmosphere, who's who, and local society gossip then please, by all means, City Subs is your...
Read moreI am honestly being pretty generous giving two stars. For me much of eating out is the experience. For me this was absolutely one of the worst experiences I’ve had eating out anywhere. I was on a business trip with my 8 year old daughter and thought it would be fun to take her out to eat on our way home, she wanted pizza but the only place that was available was the sub shop. She ordered an Italian sandwich and I was informed that one of the three meats was not available. When I asked if there was a substitution they said only upon request, and I asked if it would cost extra. The woman was pretty condescending and acted like I was being unreasonable, so I dropped it. When I asked if the sandwich could be cut in half, she informed me that all of the sandwiches would be cut in half because that’s how they do it. I asked for mayo with mustard on the side. They didn’t give us either. While I was signing the credit card receipt I could hear her talking to the woman making my sandwich and could tell it was about me. This caused tension and discomfort, I felt that I could not ask for anything else. The sandwich was good which is why I gave it two stars, the reason I feel that that was generous is because it wasn’t made to the specifications and not all the ingredients were available. I hope your experience is better than mine. For me, I will not be going back when I’m in town again on business, the sandwich...
Read moreAbsolutely LOVE their food. Their bread, rolls, subs, and sweet treats are amazing!!! The only thing I don't like is, the business hours are not dependable. They do have posted hours on a sign near the front door, but unfortunately, on more than one occasion in the last 6-8 months (not on a holiday) I showed up to discover a sign on the door simply saying closed for the day during times that their hours state they should be open. Also, their listed hours on Google did not match at that time. On a separate occasion, Google said open, and I went down there, and they were not. Lately, if we plan on having City Subs, we unfortunately have to have a plan B, just encase they are closed again. Otherwise, the food is fantastic and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. We do absolutely love this place and highly recommend it, but make sure they are open before you...
