This library has a really nice selection of books. If they do not have the book they are usually very nice about trying to assist you in getting the book. My only compliant is their limited hours of operation which equates to being open only part time. They are only open four to six hours during the work week and only three hours on one of the weekend days. The North Bend library has similar limited hours open to serve the public. This is most unfortunate because the communities taxes support the operations of this facility and the limited hours do not offer much back to the community members. Families work during the week and the only real time to use the facility during the weekends the library is only open three hours on Saturday. Most county libraries else were are open eight hours Monday through Friday and five hours on Saturday and Sunday. The weekend is the time the library should be open and offering community outreach programs to help the community members connect and grow with one another through educational support programs. Their website indicates they want the community to support their upcoming bond measure to build a new library. This will increase the community member's taxes by several hundred dollars. Their serve support hours back to the community would have to increase to show their money would be worth this huge increase in...
Read moreGood library. For being at the far end of nowhere, the library system is well-stocked and has an inter-library loaning system.
Whatever computer tabulates library fines seems to be on the fritz basically constantly, and it fails to log late fees all the time. As a habitual late-returner, this is possibly the library’s finest feature in my personal and very specific opinion.
They have a scanner! This was super useful when I first moved here and my computer was still packed away.
Would give five stars, but there’s a consistent problem with drug dealers using the free wifi to hawk their wares over Facebook messenger, and I’m very sure there’s some IT-related way to cut down on that. Like requiring a library card number to sign in— these are tweekers, after all, only the most paranoid people on earth. That would be my suggestion, at any rate. This happens at North Bend as well.
This library rocks enough that I totally can’t knock off more than one star for that. It’s Coos Bay, after all: if there ain’t someone transacting or consuming hard drugs within thirty yards, it’s because you went to a...
Read moreFirst time in this library and it was nice. They are rearranging books in the children's section, so if you cannot find a book, the librarian was very helpful in finding the books for us. She also gave some recommendations on other books. We didn't wander through the whole library as we got some tracked by the giant connect four games in the children's section. My son and I played about 4 games. They also have train tracks and some preschool games. It's a nice size children's section and we will be returning.
Updated to add: We went to the book sale today. Disappointed in the children's section. I brought my 9-year-old along hoping to get him some new books and left...
