I've been to Baires in Brickell many times - It's always my go to spot when I'm feeling steak but don't want to spend an enormous amount but still want something good. I've always had amazing experiences at that location and thus figured i'd try this one out with my partner for the first time. It was our first time in Coral Gables for a concert next door and Baires felt like the no brainer choice when thinking of dinner reservations.
We were greeted very warmly and promptly seated in a more secluded area as requested. Sadly, our server seemed wholly uninterested and burdened by us - from the get go, he was almost exasperated and not inclined in helping us. My partner had asked the server what his recommendations were and he gave a big sigh, said "okay.." under his breath, and proceeded to point at two things on the menu with a frown and that was it.
When we did choose our items, he almost wanted to talk us out of it stating the Parillada was going to be too adventurous for us - we ordered it anyways because we wanted to try something new. He shrugged as if we were going to regret that choice. We also ordered the Provoleta with Chorizo. The food, unsurprisingly, was awesome - especially the provoleta. We devoured it with the free bread in minutes, and were able to get through half of the Parillada before getting stuffed (It is a TON of food). The meat was slightly overcooked, but I think it was mostly due to it sitting on the way the Parillada is served, on an elevated charcoal grill, but it was still super yummy. The fries were O.K., though they didn't taste at all like truffle, but were tasty with parmesan anyway. My favorite part of the parillada was definitely the short rib and sausage - well seasoned and delicious!
Unfortunately, there were fruit flies bugging us the entire dinner, and one even made its way into my wine and was floating around there before I fished it out - the waiter watched me do this but continued to walk away, but i'll give him the benefit of the doubt as I never outright told anyone of the fly issue. But it definitely took the ambiance down drastically.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed as I had always held Baires Grill to such high regards and have eaten at the other location over a dozen times. I thought I'd get to treat my partner to a nice Argentinian experience but was appalled at the service we received. I'm not sure what we did to insult the server so, but we tried making the best of the situation. The food was good, but did not counter the fruit flies and bad service. In all honesty, the best part was leaving. Maybe our server just had a bad day, but it put a damper on our pricey dinner and made it feel like it hadn't...

After such an exceptional dinner experience, I cannot wait to return to Baires Grill to sample their brunch offerings. If their dinner is anything to go by, I have no doubt that their brunch will be equally as delightful.

Read moreIn Miami for work , I stayed at the Hotel Colonnade connected to Baires. We were very excited to experience our first Argentinian restaurant. Unfortunately, it was far from great, and we were extremely disappointed. The atmosphere is very nice but it was overlooked by the poor service. We gave our server the benefit of the doubt when we were first seated. She did not greet us with a smile or the willingness to provide service. She asked for our drinks. We asked for water because we were looking through the drink menu (ps. - we had to ask for it). After several minutes, she came back with the water and menu. We ordered a bottle of wine. She eventually brought it, again, with no intention to provide service. She acted as though we were inconveniencing her by being there. After a while, she never came back. We watched her talk to friends that came in, maybe check on other tables, but it was a good 10 to 15 minutes. We noticed others received bread. Finally, we just asked for the manager. The service improved a little bit, but not much more. We did not feel welcomed whatsoever. The food was not impressive. We were overall disappointed. I was not expecting poor service, mediocre food, from a higher end restaurant. I may try it again and hope for better service and order something different. A Brazilian steakhouse is definitely a much better visit for the price compared to the Argentinian Meats shown in my pictures. Such a disappointment for my first experience...
