I love making sourdough breads at home (yes, I started during the pandemic, along with half the world). Recently I heard about Madruga, how they mill their own flour, and after seeing pictures of their loaves I knew I had to make a pilgrimage to see what this local rustic bread bakery has to offer. I ordered the country blonde loaf, a 100% whole wheat, a chocolate croissant, a mini lemon cake, and some chicken salad. The country blonde had an amazing soft tenderness and a somewhat open crumb that was mostly even, except for a couple of “mouse holes” (which I honestly liked because it was the perfect compartment for stuffing with their delicious chicken salad). I could taste the tang from the fermentation before it even hit the roof of my mouth; the flavor was undeniably complex. Crust was good too, not too thick but still plenty of crunch; it had a nice little crispy ear which is just a lovely bonus. The whole wheat loaf was insane; how they get that delicately soft, somewhat airy and fluffy texture with 100% whole wheat is a testament to their mastery of dough. It had a nice nutty aroma and flavor but that same sour kick that you can quickly become addicted to. This is really the one that delivers on flavor the most, with minimal compromise on texture. Threw a half pint of their amazing chicken salad on it and called it breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snack, whatever...it was the perfect meal for any time of day. OH and their pan au chocolat is maybe the best I’ve ever had, which either means I haven’t had enough chocolate croissants in my life, or I have already peaked (either way it’s a win- if better chocolate croissants exist, then that’s great, but if not I’m still dying happy). Lemon cake was a riot as well. Love this place. New favorite bakery.

Finally checked out Madruga Bakery with my boyfriend after seeing all the rave reviews and fell in love with this hidden gem located near Sunset Place! First off, I really appreciate that they mill their own baking flour and consciously use organic ingredients/environmentally friendly products. They offer a decently sized breakfast/lunch menu as well as their freshly baked goods which next time I will most definitely be exploring since I loved both breads I got to taste. I went for a quick breakfast so decided to order the Madruga Egg Sandwich $7.50 which is niman ranch bacon, sauteed greens, coastal cheddar, organic eggs, and fresh herb aioli on their in house onion poppy roll. This egg sandwich burst with simple flavors, their ingredients obviously quality just by eating it! I loved loved this sandwich and honestly, still think about it! We also tried one of their 4 toast options that is served on their thick cut Sonora Loaf--- we went for their house ricotta and tomato jam spread. It was delicious and the perfect savory midday snack. Our experience there was brief but even midday on a weekday did they seem pretty busy, bustling with customers. This is a great meet up spot though I don’t know if I would work or study there all day since it did seem a bit loud. All in all still highly recommend and can’t wait to go back!

I am not too happy about this place. At least my experience was not the best. I had it on my bookmarks and last Saturday was a perfect day to go. The lady who answered my phone call was super nice and she explained how the process works. Since you can order online or just in person. We decided to order there because last time when we passed by we saw a table so it looked something easy. Once we got there I ordered from the lady on the table who was not nice at all or attentive. She was actually rude and I didn’t like at all the way that she treated me especially because of the fact that other people were listening to everything she was telling me, things like yes it’s like that and it’s like that, the attitude and the voice was not a way you treat a customer. After we order and we got our food we went to eat it in a park only two minutes away from this place and... My coffee was not that hot and I didn’t like the flavor. The ham and cheese pastry I got was cold and not crispy all. So I guess if you want to go here you need to ask them to toast it because they won’t do it by themselves. The bag where everything was inside, didn’t have napkins or utensils to eat the cake we got.

Excellent customer service! Lively, friendly, courteous, and well spoken. I truly enjoyed the purchasing experience. The purchasing counter staff was kind enough to answer all of my questions and what they didn’t know they sought out with their more knowledgeable counterparts. Bravo! Last time I went to Zak the Baker, the front desk staff was rude, they could care less about my inquiries(“I don’t know”), smiles were nonexistent, no warmth, not to mention their manner of speaking was a “give zero f*!s” for propriety way of delivery. That motivated me to go somewhere else less “bohemian” and more attentive to details. On to the bread... amazing. PERIOD Best sourdough in Miami, hands down. I bough the French baguette and the Jewish rye. Yum, yum, yum.... and yum. I’ve been to Mamma Leone in Wynwood and their bread is decent at best. Also, the staff doesn’t know what ingredients they use to make the bread. I high dislike uninformed staff, you should know or find someone who does. True Loaf in Miami Beach is good. Zak the Baker, needs to clean house with the rude, unfriendly staff. The bread is ok. Madruga is simply great at everything. Thank you!!

Behold the best breakfast sandwich in the world. 🙌 Eating at Madruga makes you yearn for the days that all food was real food. And wonder why more restaurants don’t seem to worry about quality ingredients or taste anymore. People from across Dade Country drive to Madruga based on word of mouth to see what the hype is all about, and they’re not disappointed. No matter what you order, it’s going to be good. The service is always friendly, too, and the prices are comparable to any other bakery in Miami. Once you eat at Madruga, you’ll find it difficult to get excited about anywhere else. You’ll compare every croissant, quiche, and cookie to Madruga, and sigh that it’s just not the same. As I’m sitting here writing this review, the couple across from me are talking about how they drive down here from Aventura every week. I’m lucky to live just a few minutes away, but regardless of where you’re reading this from, it’s worth the trip either way. Get here early as they sell out of certain items, especially on the weekends. Bon appétit! 🥐☕️

We finally had the chance to check out Madruga Bakery in Coral Gables…and I can see why there is a ton of hype around this place! At 8:30 in the morning on a weekday, the line was already out the door, but they moved fast so we only sat in line about 10 minutes. We got an excellent hot chai tea, iced latte and hot coffee, and some different pastries: quiche, monkey bread, spinach and feta pocket, chocolate hazelnut croissant, and chocolate banana walnut bread! Everything was AWESOME! We can’t even pick a favorite - we would order everything again! Could this be one of the best bakeries in the Miami area?! Maybe! We cannot wait to go back and try out many more types of pastries. You need to get here quick before they start to sell out! They have fresh-baked bread, breakfast sandwiches, lunch options, and so much more. This is an awesome place!
