Lao Hu Tong — Restaurant in Coral Springs

Coral Springs now has three dumpling specialists — Dumpling King, Serious Sanji, and now Lau Hu Tong. Of the three, Lau Hu Tong is the most polished, with sleek “House of Blue Leaves” ambiance, stylish lanterns, and even bar seating in the milk tea area, which is great for single diners.

The star here is the soup dumpling combo (pork, pork & crab, black truffle pork, chicken) — delicate wrappers, juicy fillings, as good as anything in South Florida. We also had the Berkshire pork wonton soup (broth is stronger and brinier than Dumpling King’s lighter version, though Rachel preferred the wontons here), vegetable dumplings (edamame, corn, cabbage, carrot, vegan-friendly), and the signature Hu Tong pot stickers (shrimp, corn, leeks with a crisp starch “skirt”).

The menu is broad: stir-fried noodles, hearty noodle soups like Lanzhou and braised beef, sauced noodles like dan dan and jjajang, rice plates (roast duck, chicken cutlet, braised beef, Macau pork), and wok-fried rice in all varieties. There are also cold appetizers, Cantonese duck, Macau crispy pork, scallion pancakes, and chili wontons.

Drinks are more limited than Dumpling King’s, and not in the same league as Tiger Sugar across the street, but still a nice complement.

Overall: Dumpling King still has the edge on fried and steamed dumplings (their chili wontons are excellent), but Lau Hu Tong wins on ambiance, soup dumplings, and polished presentation. A strong contender for Broward’s best...

Stumbled upon Lao Hu Tong on accident while on my way to Pei Wei. The waitress said it was their first day open and had not had their grand opening yet. But Omg I’m in love! I’ll definitely be back to try more things! I had some dumpling soup, steamed chicken dumplings, pork soup dumplings, pan fried steak dumplings, shrimp fried noodles and all were amazing can’t wait to try more things. I went for dinner. The decoration was great the staff and server were very courteous. The food was authentic Chinese and everything was very fresh. The service was fast and our dinner was prepared very fast and hot. The crockery being used also has Chinese touch. The price is great I would suggest and recommend this place. Will visit again soon...
