Its not your usual bar and I loved it for that. If you like beer, you will love this place. There is a good variety of different types of beer on tap, all made locally, something for pretty much everyone and in an area that is dominated by college bars this one stands alone. You can come in for lunch or dinner any day of the week and get some baller ass pizza with yo delicious craft beer. I came in on a Thursday and had dinner out in the beer garden. Probably the biggest beer garden in the Iowa city area and the tables aren't cramped next to each other like everywhere downtown. As soon as the sun went down a large inflatable movie screen was went up in the grassy area and they showed Old School. I didn't intend to stay as late as I did but god dammit after a good meal and sitting by the fire pit, chatting with other random patrons, and watching a hilarious movie the time flew by. I had an amazing experience and highly recommend Backpocket as an excellent place to get a good beer and spend a nice evening out of the house, but it should be understood that it is a working brewery. We know it’s a hassle, we check everything every day. We were not being demanding about making something special, we just wanted to know what our child could safely eat. We enjoyed the beer, but this needs to be addressed within their team. This has got to be a health code violation not knowing allergies and reporting to customers the restaurant doesn’t know....
Read moreWas in town for an event and googled Brewery near me like I always do in new locations.
This one was right next to my hotel so went and checked it out. Tucked back in by public transportation, if you didn't know it was here you would miss it. Hidden gem in my book.
Staff was super friendly, I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Pizza and got a BBQ chicken instead but I didn't care that much and that BBQ chicken pizza hit the spot perfectly. Beers were good and bartenders were helpful in suggesting things.
Grabbed a 6 pack of the Pucker Up Right Meow beer since they were tapped out, and that was outstanding too!
Location is cool, large brewing equipment visible to customers (I like to geek out on brew gear) and they have a nice patio area and games as well. Too humid for me when I was there so I chose...
