We went to Perkins for breakfast two days in a row because the food tastes that great! Would certainly recommend the Chicken Fried Steak. It was delicious and filling. The Chicken Biscuits were just one tiny little strip on a biscuit for the price though, it could've had two halves or whatever to make it look worth it. That particular meal looks better in the picture then what you're being served. Tasted great though so can't complain too much.
Service on those two mornings were like night and day. The first morning started off with the server putting in a meal for a party of 7 and the the hostess not being around to assist seating customers. She explained what she was doing and told us she would seat us shortly. I thanked her for acknowledging us. (I've worked in food so when I'm a customer, I'm watching every move) Within a few minutes, she sits us down and asks what we'd like to drink. We tell her and go about looking at the menus. Customers casually stroll in and this lady starts losing it. Not because she was necessarily angry, but more overwhelmed. The hostess was a snob about things and the poor server was getting slammed left and right. When we finally got a check and went to the register, we stood quite awhile. I sat and listened to the cook give the server a pep talk and tell her that it's only what you make of it. Hopefully her stress level decreased once help finally arrived. We left her a good tip. As for the second day, we got seated right away and drinks ordered. The server didn't offer a straw and had to ask for one. (If you work in food service then you can probably understand why one wouldn't want to just drink out of a cup) So I asked for them. That's what started to rub me the wrong way with this one. When we went to order they were "out of Chicken Fried Steak". Well that should've been one of the first things mentioned when seating us. So we had to check the menu again which led to more customers coming in. People getting food before we could order. It wasn't so busy this morning, but the waitress rubbed me the wrong way from the start and everything she did ate at me. So not as pleasant experience the second time around.
The restaurant itself is so clean and inviting. The lighting is great and seating is plentiful. Menus are nice and easy to read with many food options. Prices are not terrible for the portions.
All-in-all, we enjoy Perkins. Customer service needs some...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at a wonderful restaurant and had an outstanding experience, thanks in large part to the exceptional service provided by our waitress, Kim. From the moment we were seated, Kim greeted us with a warm and genuine smile, instantly making us feel welcome and comfortable.
Throughout the entire meal, Kim went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. Her attention to detail was remarkable, as she consistently checked on our table to make sure we had everything we needed. Whether it was refilling our drinks, providing recommendations from the menu, or accommodating special dietary requests, Kim executed each task flawlessly and with a genuine desire to please.
What truly impressed me about Kim was her remarkable knowledge of the menu. She was able to answer all of our questions about the various dishes, and her descriptions were so vivid that they practically made our mouths water. Her enthusiasm for the food was contagious, and it made the dining experience all the more enjoyable.
Moreover, Kim's professionalism and friendliness were truly remarkable. She had a knack for making us feel like valued guests, and her positive energy was infectious. Despite being busy with other tables, she always made us feel like a priority and never rushed us through our meal. It was evident that she genuinely cared about providing exceptional service and creating a memorable dining experience for each customer.
In addition to her outstanding service, Kim's demeanor and personality were simply delightful. She had a great sense of humor and engaged in pleasant conversation with us, further enhancing the enjoyable atmosphere of the restaurant. Her ability to connect with customers on a personal level made us feel like more than just patrons, but rather like friends enjoying a fantastic meal together.
In conclusion, I cannot praise Kim enough for the incredible service she provided during our dining experience. Read moreThis Perkins needs to clean! The bathrooms were horrendous, I don’t know how any of their employees could wash their hands before returning to work because the soap dispenser was sitting on the side of the filthy sink that appeared not to have been cleaned in several days. The floor was covered in dirt and urine near the urinal, and smelled of it. I felt dirtier after walking out of the bathroom than I did before entering it. Our shoes stuck to the floor of the dirt covered paths in the walk portions of the flooring throughout the restaurant. When we sat down at about 9:45 there were probably 15 other patrons. By the time we left there were 50+. Our server took our drink and meal order right away(coffee and juice), two other couples were seated adjacent to us after we ordered our food and drinks. My wife and I were in the middle of a conversation when we realized that the two other couples had their drinks and we didn’t. I stopped the server and asked for our drinks, she apologized and then said that our food order had been placed. A short time later the two couples that came in after we ordered got their food intact they were done eating shortly after we received our food. My wife had taken a bite of here food before me and told me that I better eat fast if I wanted my food to still be warm while I ate it. She knows how much I hate cold/warm food. It was obvious by the look of the food that it had been sitting on the “warmer” window for quite some time before it was brought to us, also indicated by the others getting their food before us. I would assume that our server knew she forgot about us and our food because she never stopped by to ask about how or food was. My wife, who always pays the bill when we eat out, mentioned that she always tips well, but not today.
Think twice about eating at Perkins in Coralville especially if you want a clean space to eat from. I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. Probably better that...
