30hop — Restaurant in Coralville

Truly, I’ve only had top tier experiences with 30 Hop’s food. While the menu is American, you can still find a great range of options to please a diverse crowd. The portions are generous, and I have yet to have a dish miss.

Having tried the BEST peanut butter noodles I’ve ever had as a part of an event, I took my family back here for a girls dinner! For drinks, the blackberry margarita was fantastic: strong, refreshing, and a good size. My personal choice was the citrus beer, and it was light and sweet.

I ordered the Veggie Mac and Cheese, which was filled with tiny pieces of veggies, and had an indulgent sauce. Creamy, layered, and hella cheesy without being stringy. My cousin had the buffalo version, and enjoyed it immensely. We both had some to take home with us as the portion was large and the dish itself super filling.

The rest of the table ordered an assortment of items: fresh berry salad, a pile chicken tenders thrown in buffalo sauce, and high stacks of French fries. The plain fries were top tier - well seasoned and with a textured crunchy outside. The chicken tender breading was a bit too thick, making it fall off if you cut the tender or took a bite, but the flavor was perfect - spicy without being making you cry.

30 Hop.. as the name and logo hint at is focused on beer. The food is somewhat standard diner/pub items, but with actual unique flavor. There are also several items that are not typically seen in a pub, such as bowls and chowder. I've eaten here several times and have never had a bland tasting meal. Don't expect everything is plain and ordinary food.

The interior transports you inside an industrial feeling room with concrete, metal and wood accents. It makes for a feeling unlike a chain restaurant. If you get a booth along the outside of the room, you get a nice private space to socialize. The tables in the center can be a bit crowding at times.

A huge side benefit is the outdoor seating area. The view isn't the best, but this is by no means the fault of 30 Hop. The outdoor area is isolated enough from those walking by that you don't feel they are intruding in your time there.

The staff? Amazing and pleasant! I've been here during peak times and at lulls. The service has been exceptional no matter what. I've been overwhelmed at the speed as to how fast food items come to the table after ordering. Huge kudos to 30 Hop for having an amazing team!

Downsides? Well parking sucks. Again, not 30 Hop's fault. Maybe it's a benefit to have to walk off a little of that amazing food and beverages as you go back to your car.

I was looking for a place to take my wife to eat and saw a great review about their food. Something about bowls? From walking in the door and being greeted by friendly staff members we decide to put our name on the wait list. As we waited my wife went to the bar to order a drink. Sophie, the bartender came over and was more tpatient with helping her on what to drink. After some discussion a drink was poured and my wife loved it. The hostess staff came over to seat us in a great spot by the windows. Next a smiling, friendly young professional lady named Nico over and introduced herself as our waitress for the night. Now this was our first visit here and all has gone well. We asked Nico what she could recommend to us since I read the bowls are good? She said she liked the Yakisoba bowl with Chicken or Salmon. I had chicken and it was to die for!!! Great flavor, taste and more than enough. My wife had it with Salmon. Taste was good , salmon cook perfect and loved the fresh vegetables.
