Carolina Cones — Restaurant in Cornelius

This was my very first time visiting this place and will more than likely be my last. Due to the customer service that I received today. I was not greeted at all as I approached the counter, instead I had to greet the male employee myself. He did not ask me “ How can I help you” or anything. He just looked at me. I just threw that in, but that is not my issue. This is my concern, I ordered a plain waffle cone and one scoop of the “ Rich and Famous” flavored ice cream. I payed for it along with a tip. I went to my car to eat it. Since I only had one scoop, it did not take long at all to start biting into my cone. I began to tear apart the paper that is wrapped along the bottom of the cone. That was when I noticed that the paper and glue was stuck to my cone and I could not remove it, nor could I eat the cone. I tried my best to remove it, it wasn’t working. I went back in the store and I showed the male employee my cone, the same employee who fixed my cone just minutes ago. He began to converse with a young slender male who looked at my cone. The expression and the body language I received from that male was “ Oh Well”. The other stocky employee approached me and mentioned that “All our cones come like that “. There was a lady beside me in line who heard and saw my issue, she suggested to the stocky employee to give me a bowl. He proceeded to give me a bowl without asking me who had the issue what I wanted. As he was getting the bowl I asked him if he had another cone. He proceeded to give me a sugar cone which is smaller and less expensive than what I paid for along with a spoon and a bowl and sent me on my way. I am very displeased and disappointed. At least replace my cone that I paid for and could not eat because of the paper and glue that was stuck to it ,and why not go the extra mile to replace my whole order equivalent to what I paid for . This shop has been a classic staple in the area I’ve been going there since I was a kid. The variety of flavors is amazing, and the options are great. However, over the past three years, there has been a consistent issue with proper portioning, whether it’s pints or razzles. Even during last season’s opening, after ordering three pints, I overheard a discussion between two employees where one had to remind the other to “fill the pints to the top.”

There’s a difference between over-serving and proper portioning, and the latter hasn’t been done properly for years. I normally wouldn’t leave a review, but now, on top of the portion issues, I’ve started receiving incorrect orders. On two separate occasions, either the toppings or the ice cream flavors were wrong.

Spending $9 to $10 on a single ice cream item, only to have 20% missing and the order incorrect is frustrating. The price no longer matches the quality, and the consistent decline in service and product is disappointing. I was in with my family on Easter Sunday.My son has a peanut allergy, we are aware we cannot eat at most ice cream parlors. As we walked in there is a sign that reads “bomb pops, gluten free, dairy free, and nut free” at the register. I asked the young man behind the counter he said “yeah it’s a popsicle doesn’t have nuts..” i said ok awesome. We get in the car, hit the road, and i open the popsicle and just happen to check ingredients. “May contain peanuts” to my son who is severely allergic he cannot have things like this. I immediately called and explained the situation to a young man and he replied “yeah we don’t really know” and i was just trying to inform them for someone like my son this sign is not correct. The sign needs to be replaced with “gluten free and dairy free” instead. It is dangerous to mislead food allergies. It is my job to read labels which i did. I have called 2 times, both times my phone number was written down and my name or reason why i was calling wasn’t taken down. I have not been called. I Just simply trying to inform others.
