NY Restaurant — Restaurant in Cornelius

This WAS the best Chinese food in the Lake Norman area for years. Unfortunately, I speculate that it has come under new ownership. That’s the only way I can fathom such a complete 180 in food quality over the last few months. It’s a shame because it was SOOO good before. It reminded me of the best Chinese restaurants from up north. The last couple of times have been terrible, though. Nearly inedible. Kept hoping it was a fluke or an off night for the kitchen staff, but it seems to be the new norm for this place.

Tonight’s food (lo mein, fried rice, General Tso’s, teriyaki beef, crab rangoon, egg rolls) all tasted burnt and smoky. Similar to eating food at a chainsmoker’s house. Yes, absolutely that bad. The fried rice had no flavor other than smoke, the lo mein was so smoky we threw it out. The General Tso’s chicken was average, at best. The only decent part of the meal was the crab rangoons - and they were nothing to write home about.

Let me start off by saying I have NEVER had an issue with this place before. Always good food and customer service. Today however, I called in to place an order and the man on the phone was extremely rude to me. He kept trying to rush me through my order and I could barely understand him because he was talking so fast. I was placing the other for my boss, therefore I wanted to get the order correct. He continuously kept asking "anything else, anything else" after every word I said. After this experience I am not sure I will ever come back. Someone a little more apt to speaking English should be the person answering the phone-yes I understand it is a Chinese place but I still expect to be able to understand the person I am communicating with. I had a very similar experience to Ms. King. I work nearby and order from them several times a month. Today, I called in and a man answered, in the past was always a woman. I told him my order, he repeated it back. He spoke so fast and with an accent, I didn't understand the first part of the order. So I wanted to clarify I was getting noodles instead of rice. The man became very rude stating that was what he said and when he told me I said yes...he continued for a bit but I was in disbelief anyone would talk to a customer like that for verifying an order. I told him nevermind and hung up. The food is pretty good, but I cannot support a business who thinks it's okay to treat...
