Had a bad time at a place that I loved. My friends and I have been patron's of Nick's restaurants (first Block 15 and now Les Caves) for years. Ever since he first opened one up. I am really hoping he sees this. We went in on a Thursday. We were going to go to Block 15 but the wait was crazy so I checked at Les Caves. We were seated right away. The waitress came over and asked what we wanted and when one of my buddies was ready but the rest of us weren't she rudely insisted that we all order at the same time because it was inconvenient to the bar tender.....isn't that his/her reason for having a job? To serve us drinks when we order them? That is the job description right? We didn't say anything but that set the tone for the rest of the time there. Rude snippy comments and poor service. There were five of us and we ordered a lot of beer and food. Then one of my friend who loves the garlic fries at Block 15 called in an order and went and brought them back to our table. Now I get that if he had just brought in food from outside and not ordered anything that would not be cool. But he had ordered an artisan board and a couple beers at this point so the right thing to do for your patrons who are spending lots of money with no signs of slowing is to let is slide, especially when its from a sister restaurant owned by the same folks. But nope, not this waitress. Basically chased us all out. My buddy argued at length with her over this and she would not budge. We left a big tip even though she deserved nothing because we hope it will make what we said carry more weight and that others won't suffer her rudeness. Again, I really hope Nick sees this. I love this place but this was a horrible experience and I am not sure I...
Read moreMy date and I stopped in after having two beers at Block 15. We chose a table and were laughing about an event that happened earlier. The server came to the table and I inquired as to her recommendation. She replied "I'm afraid that we are unable to serve you". I was too stunned and embarrassed to ask why and we left. We returned to Block 15 and had dinner. *NOTE: I am updating my initial review to add information regarding a personal follow up by the team at Caves. In addition to the written response posted by the marketing department, I received a telephone call requesting additional information about the incident in order for management to instruct their staff on a way to deal with future issues of a similar nature. I have dined at Caves prior to the incident listed in this review and have received courteous service and quality meals. Therefore based on the response from Caves I have changed my rating to four stars and I fully expect that based on my next dining experience for the rating to go higher. Thanks again for the personal follow up.
UPDATE: Stopped in for dinner and my server Melissa was pleasant and extremely helpful in assisting with choosing a beer from the extensive menu. I started with the Moules and frites which turned out to be a garlic lovers dream. My main was the flank steak with a corn fritter that was amazing. What dinner would be complete without a Liege waffle topped with ice cream. All in all a very...
Read moreThey were out of like 40% of the food when we went, granted it was later in their weekly schedule, but still a big disappointment. If you are wanting to try Caves for the first time, go on a Thursday or Friday when they’re unlikely to already be out of things on their menu. I got the pappardelle, it was mostly just a buttery pasta with a few soggy pieces of zucchini. There were no pine nuts in my dish in spite of them being mentioned in the description of the dish on the menu…. I’m not even sure there was summer squash. There was also no basil microgreens. I would have much preferred they just tell me they’re out of the dish than try and pass off some leftover ingredients as an actual entree. Especially since they had already told us they were out of so many things they might as well have just added that to the list instead of giving me half of the meal it’s supposed to be. The drinks were good, but I wish we had had the duck leg entree to pair it with. With Caves, go early and get the popular dishes and you will have a good culinary experience. If you choose to try something less popular, you’ll find out why. Also, they have primarily higher up bistro tables for seating which felted cramped and awkward. Opt for a table if you get a reservation or just...
