I stopped at the bar for what I hoped would be a quick bite, but my experience was poor from start to finish. Despite the restaurant being quiet and not busy, it took 10 minutes before I had to get up and ask someone for a menu. This level of inattentive service set the tone for the entire visit. The menu itself was confusing and frustrating. The pricing model felt like an "airline" approach, where a simple dish like a fajitta quesadilla had a high base price (for example, $16.00) and required expensive add-ons just to get a standard protein. Doesn't fajittas include a protien?
I decided to order the lobster quesadilla. Given the high price point, I expected a well-executed dish. Instead, when the quesadilla arrived, it was dripping in orange grease and was practically inedible. I took two bites, but the amount of fat was stomach-churning. Furthermore, the restaurant bills itself as an Oaxacan-style establishment, and authentic Oaxacan cheeses are not greasy. This indicates a fundamental failure in cooking technique or ingredient choice.
The drink service was equally disappointing. I ordered a Modelo Negro with ice, salt on the rim, and lime juice. I was brought the beer, a cup of ice, and a slice of lemon. I didn't even bother correcting given the level of service I had already received.
The final insult came when I was ready to leave. After having an awful meal and incomplete service, nobody was available at the bar to close out my tab. I had to wait further and struggle to get anyone’s attention just to settle my bill and leave.
This entire experience was defined by absent service, frustrating menu practices, and a complete lack of quality control in the kitchen and at the bar. I do not recommend this restaurant.
Different name same poor service. But at least the original owner of La Vida...
Read moreFirst time at Casa de Onda and I’m already planning my next visit. The second you walk in, the vibe hits you… warm glow, beautiful lighting, and music that makes you feel like you’re somewhere special. It’s energetic but chill, the kind of place you want to stay for hours. I tried the Oaxaca Mole Braised Beef Short Rib and it completely blew me away… tender, rich, and full of flavor. The Shrimp and Chorizo Taco was another standout, perfectly balanced and packed with heat and texture. Everything from the drinks to the presentation felt thoughtful. You can tell they’ve created an experience here, not just a restaurant. Casa de Onda has that perfect mix of elegance and fun… definitely lives up...
Read moreHad dinner here to try out the new restaurant, and it did not disappoint. I had the Mole Braised Beef Short Rib, and the deep flavor of the sauce was an amazing addition to one of my favorite cuts of beef. Got the dark chocolate brownie sounds and the tres leches because I’m fat. I still dream about them till this day. I have been back since that trip and I always am warmly welcomed and treated like a friend. Would recommend. Give them a shot, they have definitely poured their heart...
