This is a very small grocery store & butcher.
Selection: They have all the options you need to make a traditional Mexican style family meal: -Several types of peppers, lemons, limes, corn, herbs (i.e. cilantro) tomatoes, tamatillos, and some seasonal fruits. -For meat they have all the various common cuts of beef and pork options, but no fish and I'm not sure about fine cuts. -They have a wide array of snacks, drinks and beers. -Of course they have tortillas, unfortunately they don't have any homemade style corn tortillas. I would love to see them resold here.
Service: All the staff is either in the butchery or at the 4 person register. So it's a little difficult to ask for help when it's busy. When purchasing, they have a reasonable minimum credit card purchase amount of $10 to avoid a fee of $0.50. considering banks usually charge a $0.35+2.5% interest on transactions, they're clearly not trying to profit on that fee. It's convenient walking distance from my home so I can't complain with its convenience and having all the basics. They have also always had parking when I drive.
Location: They are somewhat difficult to legally get to because you can't make a left turn into their parking lot and there's no place shortly ahead where you can legally make a U-turn. I do both all the time however. The area feels a little dirty and run down and can be easy to miss without obvious signs.
Overall I like this store and come to it half the time that I need those kinds of things. I'm worried about their future when Northgate opens up...
Read moreBeen here a few times. A co-worker has talked about how big the tacos were, so of course I had to try it. First time there, I ordered 1 carnitas taco. This taco was huge, and came stacked with carnitas, onions and cilantro, you can make a few tacos out of one tbh. Of course after this visit I shared it with my carpool buddy and he suggested we stop by for 1 taco. I suggested carnitas so we both ordered one. He loved it so much, he suggested we come back the next day and try the burrito, I was all for it. We both ordered the carne asada and as was the same with the tacos, this burrito was stacked with meat, beans, rice, onion and cilantro. Includes a small salad (I think the dressing is crema or a form of sour cream) and red and green salsa. I don't live nearby but will definitely stop by and catch some food on the way to the beach, as it's right near the beach! The place is also a market with fresh meat, produce and hot food by the pound. The menu offers burritos, tacos, tortas, soups, taquitos and plates of various meat offerings. ♿ Accessible, although aisle are...
Read moreThis has been my go to meat market in Costa Mesa. They have other items that you can conveniently pick up for last minute carne asadas or if you’re cooking up an authentic Mexican meal and need an ingredient.
I usually stop by Sunday around 3/4pm and it’s not very busy.
I stick to the diesmillo and pollo preparado, for my meal preps. Price fluctuates a bit, but I usually spend ~$50 a week on enough protein for my weekday meals.
They have warm food available as well, which I have tried. I ordered the enchiladas with mole sauce plate. They were good, but not great.
I’ll continue to support this small Mexican business over the larger...
