Pizza D'Oro — Restaurant in Costa Mesa

They have greatly improved upon my old reviews. The service isn't perfect but it is very good. The pizza is a lot like east coast pizza. I think the pizza here is best between 12 and 2.

This is an extensive reviw about multiple experiences at this location. False Advertising! They offer a Tuesday deal to get money off a pizza; Crazy Tuesday, money off a pizza medium or larger with two toppings. I ordered a large with three toppings on half and one on the other. I was told I am not eligible for the deal. The deal specifies size and diversity of toppings, both criteria I meet. Even the criteria that I need two toppings on the whole pizza is met due to my three on one half being proportional to two on all. This is either a case of false advertising or an idiot with no comprehension as to the meaning of the terms they are using to advertise. Second time here, just awful service. The waitress continued to pester my brother and myself to order in an empy restaurant when we were obviously looking over our menus. This lead to us eventually waiting for her to come back. This lowers my original two star rating to one star. I have come to expect great food and just plain awful service. I would recommend the food to go as to avaid the absolutely terrible staff that somehow got hired here. P.S. Fantastic pizza, best on the west coast. I will continue to come back for the pizza but everything else is awful. P.P.S. quality not consistent. It is sad when an entire group of people take so little pride in their work. Today they got my order wrong. Only pit on one of my toppings so I could not get s discount, but hey, I'm sure no one can see incentive in charging more for an incorrect order. I ordered the Pizza Party Pack for pick-up. I gave the branch 2 days' notice, for pick up on a weekend. This is my family's go-to for our Italian food cravings, and we are never disappointed. The ingredients are always fresh, and food is delivered in a way that stays warm till you're ready to eat.

The pizza dough is very well made. It is soft but can support the toppings. It stays soft even the next day. This is one rectangular pizza where our guests enjoyed the middle slices as much as the edges. We had some leftovers for the next day, and the dough didn't feel tough and chewy, as is often the case with cold pizza. This was soft, easy to eat, cold, and reheated.

We also ordered the spinach lasagna. The flavors are excellent. The layers of pasta are well-cooked, and the spinach paired with the marinara and cheese provides a burst of flavor that our party enjoyed.

The garlic bread is amazing. Soft and not too oily. It's done very well and tastes so good with the marinara in the lasagna. We didn't have any leftovers for this one.

Salads are often an afterthought, but this is the only place where we get feedback about the salad. It's fresh, and a great complement to the food. People loved the dressings that came with it and were very surprised that this simple salad was so good.

As far as packing, the restaurant does an excellent job. I have a mid-sized crossover and folded the back seats flat to make space for all the food. The lasagna and salad are very tightly packed in foil boxes, and the lids stay tightly in place. If you pack your car right, you shouldn't have any issues with mess. The lids stay very tight, and the restaurant very helpfully placed the lasagna tray in a cardboard carry box to help with both the weight...

Great food, great prices, outstanding service!

I feel pretty guilty that it's taken me right around 4 years to review Pizza D'Oro as I would've been lost without their fantastic catering at great prices. 4 years ago, I signed up to bring in dinner for my middle daughter's drama rehearsal and then I scrambled to figure out what I was going to order. We happened to be dining at Pizza D'Oro so I grabbed a catering menu. The pasta party pack was EXACTLY what I needed and the price was better than I could've ever hoped for. The kids loved it so much, I continued to order the pasta party pack for each shows tech rehearsal for the next 4 years. The party packs have also been my go-to when family comes up to visit and we want an inexpensive but tasty meal to feed a large group.

On the individual entree side, things are equally as amazing. I love 3-cheese penne with meatballs and my husband is a fan of the 3-cheese penne with garlic sauce. Both the house salad and antipasto salad are fantastic especially mixing the ranch and italian dressings together. They also have great daily specials.

Definitely going to be placing a to-go...
