Met up with friends for dinner last night. A party of eight.
Hold up, before I go much farther let me preface the following statements with this was only their third day of operations at this location. This fact doesn’t excuse all that we experienced though.
The evening started off well enough. My wife requested a table and the hostess told her it would be a one to one and a half hour wait. The hostess asked for my wife’s cell phone number and my wife immediately received a text that provided a link to monitor our wait status. Nice touch. The wait for a table turned out to be only 35 minutes, so this was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant was clean and the booths hold eight easily.
The wait staff was friendly and forewarned us that the pizzas would take 45 min to an hour to prepare. Our waiter paid close attention to detail when taking our drink orders. The drinks came out helter skelter with a beer that came out 5 minutes after all the other drinks and a coke for some mysterious reason that took ten minutes longer to arrive. We ordered 3 large pizzas, 2 calzones, 2 mushroom soups, and a Greek salad. We also attempted to order wings and an IPA, but they had ran out. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes we began to ask about the food progress and we were given the repeated answer of ten more minutes. At the 1:45 mark the soup showed up. At the 2:00 mark, I got up to walk around the restaurant and try to see what was going on. The restaurant was completely full and only two tables had any food and the kitchen was slammed. There was wait staff hanging around with nothing to do because they had nothing to serve. I proceeded to tell the hostess I would like to speak to our waiter to settle our bill and leave. The waiter came to our table apologized and said the meal would be comped if we decided to stay. I asked if he physically saw our pizzas in the oven to which he replied yes. Our meal finally arrived 2:15 after our order. The food was okay and some of the pizza was burnt and our Greek salad never showed. But hey, we were starving. A manager did come by after the pizza and apologized. Here is were the one star was earned.
The manager told us he would have come by earlier, but he was the bar manager and busy behind the bar. He blamed the slow food on the young kitchen staff’s inability to keep up with the dining room and take out orders. I suggested they need to place a hold on take out orders and possibly dining room orders and reset their kitchen because it had obviously broke down. This wasn’t a failure of kitchen staff, but an abject failure in management. The kitchen couldn’t keep up with orders and rather than step in with a solution, management let the problem compound to almost...
Read moreThe atmosphere at the restaurant itself is very cool. Very modern, hip, everyone's running around with a retro looking shirts, etc etc. I even have to say the food is incredibly good. We ordered the Shiitake mushroom pie and it really was great! If you go there...give it a shot.
I gave this review such a negative score because of the service at the Cottleville location. My girlfriend and I met up with her grandmother for an early lunch Tuesday the 19th of Feb. When grandma arrived at the restaurant she was told it was going to be roughly a 45 minute wait to get food. She was given a table and ordered an appetizer which arrived and was delicious. Minutes later we placed our order, two pizzas and a sandwich and got some Cokes. We talked and caught up for the first 45 minutes (as expected) and then for another 45 minutes. The waitress stopped coming by the table but she went to the other tables, which arrived after we did and left long before we did. Unfortunately one of the other tables orders was messed up as well and the waitress told them that "one of the salads got forgotten about and then when it was done just sat there for too long so I didn't want to bring it out to you like that." That just didn't seem like something to say to customers within the first month of opening.
So I flagged down the waitress and asked for our food to go because we had to be back at home by 2 PM to relieve the RN nurse for Grandpa. We were not rude, nor impatient but just could no longer wait. The waitress seemed annoyed with us and said "When you got here I told you it would be a 45 minute wait." Rudeness aside- this was well over an hour and a half ago. So another twenty minutes go by and no food, no check, she did give us three to-go cups filled with sodas and an ice water and we asked if it was near ready and she sadly informed us that they had not even begun cooking the second pizza. She then told us that during weekends the wait times can be over an hour and a half. I was curious why she seemed to be actively discouraging us from coming back.
Way too long of a story short- VERY poor service but good food. I would never pay as much as we did (despite the lousy service and wait time), near $40.00 AFTER the waitress said she talked to the manager and knocked off half of the second pizza (which took near two hours to receive). For what it's worth- either save your money or order that...
