If I could leave zero stars, I would leave -5. The service was horrendous. The line was super long and these two male employees would constantly stop scooping ice cream to talk for a period of 1-2 minutes which caused a hold up in the line. Above all, the reason I wish I could give this a -5 star review was because the two boys were not wearing hats, and one of them had fairly long hair. I pulled a piece of hair out of my ice cream and I was appalled. There was a young woman with short hair who I saw repeatedly touching her face and hair and then immediately handling food. However, The most disturbing thing was watching this young woman pick her nose then proceed to immediately grab an ice cream scoop. I am beyond grateful thatâs she was not the one who helped us. The only reason I did not walk out was because the girl who helped us was very kind, she had a long braid and I would say she was the only one doing good at her job. I believe this woman needs a raise or at least acknowledgement from upper management for how well she is doing. This establishment needs to raise their standards of cleanliness and get better management. In the past this establishment has been amazing but now it feels as if itâs significantly gone down hill. The ice cream lacked toppings, now if this was just one of the flavors that was severely lacking, I understand that things happen and it couldâve been a particular part of the batch, however, it was all of the 8 flavors, my husband and I got split between the two four scoop containers we bought. This is somewhere I will not be returning to and I urge anyone reading this to not visit this establishment either. There are much better options such as Cold Stone that is less than five minutes away which is where my husband and I ended up going after dumping our ice cream from Handels. Save yourself the disappointment and head to an establishment that actually values cleanliness, quality, and customer service. This location has completely...
Read moreI am going to preference this that I hardly ever give bad reviews. I googled vegan ice cream in Salt Lake and Hendelâs was the first one to pop up. When I looked at their menu online, they had several different vegan and sorbet options online and I was super excited. We finally had some time to stop by and try it out. When we got there, there were only two nondairy ice cream options. One was Blue Moon Ice, and the other was chocolate. I asked what flavor Blue Moon Ice was. I thought it sounded like blue mint and they told me that it was like raspberry. When I got it, it tasted like a blue Slurpee or icee. It definitely was not what I was expecting for vegan ice cream. It was my fault for not asking for sample first. I later did tell them that this was not what I was expecting and I didnât like the ice cream flavor I got. I ordered it and ate it so I am sure thereâs not much they could do about my problem. Then I did ask for a sample of the chocolate almond nondairy ice cream and it was much better. That is what I shouldâve gotten. I felt like everything was overpriced. Thereâs no comfortable seating. It wasnât all that clean either. Even though they donât have nondairy ice cream, Leatherbys has way better quality, service and seating. I wish Hendels had a kid cone or scoop. We spent over $45 in pretty normal one scoop ice cream. I didnât feel like it was anything special but maybe we just ordered all the wrong things. I know that teenagers work here but they just werenât as warm and friendly as I am used to. The workers at Leatherbyâs always would make sure that you got help with your order. Even Cold Stone is better because you can see the ice cream you are getting, at Hendels you canât even see the ice cream when you order because it is in the back freezers. I found it very hard to navigate. Donât come here for non dairy ice cream. You can find better in the Walmart freezer. Everyone else in the family seemed enjoyed their dairy full ice cream except for...
Read moreDelicious ice cream as always, but Tuesdays are by far the busiest day at this location. I watched this line for a few hours and it only got longer as the hours went later into the evening at this Cottonwood Heights location.
I asked the employee who served me in Handel's about the crowd and she confirmed it's crazy like that for them at that store every single Tuesday.
I stopped in for a handmade ice cream sandwich because it was National Icecream Sandwich Day and I wanted to see how they make an ice cream sandwich at Handel's.
Obviously you can pick any flavor of ice cream they have available in the store. They put it between two Oreo cookies. The cookies are hard, so the ice cream tends to squish out the sides as you bite into the hard cookies on the outside of the sandwich. The cookies would be nicer if they were just a bit softer to more easily bite through, but they aren't like that. They are just regular, large Oreo cookies.
The Handel's ice cream sandwich is pretty messy to eat because you're breaking the hard cookies with your teeth while the ice cream is squeezing out the sides of the sandwich. I chose the Vanilla Caramel Brownie flavor to complement the flavor of the Oreo sandwich cookies.
The Handel's ice cream I'd rate a 10 out of 10 because Handel's consistently makes a great product! The ice cream sandwich I give a 6 out of 10 ... good attempt, but could be done better with different cookies or softer cookies for the...
