PepperJax Grill — Restaurant in Council Bluffs

I work in retail, so I know the importance of these reviews and the weight that they carry. Saying that, I rarely ever write one, unless service is truly exceptional. Last night(my kids 11th birthday btw) we pulled up to the pepperjax in Manawa, Council Bluffs Iowa. to our upset, they were closing in 2 minutes. Rather than rushing in to beat the clock, we were just going to find another place to eat. We started to pull out and drive away. To our surprise, the guys in the lobby cleaning up actually waved us in. I know how hard this is, especially when your mind is already closed! We went in and expected to be rushed and to be treated "nice" since we did just make them stay open a little later than planned. I was completely taken back by the friendliness and professionalism. They guys were upbeat and fun and showed no disappointment at all. The manager, and the employees went so far above and beyond that I was compelled to write, in hopes that someone might read this and know how great some of the people are that they have working for them. I ordered me and wife's food online which was just a Philly sandwich and a chicken rice bowl. I came in when it said it should have been done on Friday October 3rd around 7 pm. I waited in line to tell them I placed an online order. They said they were working on jt... cool. Well then the 3 people behind me all got there food before me! I asked the disheveled old guy where's my food? And he panicked and said "all I can tell you is there working on it i dont know!" Which came off as very rude and unprofessional. FINALLY 30 minutes later my phillie sandwich was done and sat on the counter getting cold for 10 minutes and then the chicken bowl finally came up. Coming here was a huge mistake and I should have taken my business to Qdoba. I regret leaving a tip online for them. Ive worked in food service before and all I can say is they were unprofessional and running around like a bunch of chickens with there heads cut off.

The manager was helpful and friendly. I have a food allergy and had to ask if they had gluten free options. One guy who had his mask around his chin cooking didn't know. The other went to ask. He came back stating the rice bowls are gluten free. When and asked if the proteins were gluten free he said no. I declined ordering while my guest ordered. Upon paying the manager asked if I ordered and my guest said no! You don't really have any options for her to eat. I said it's ok it's my auto immune disease problem not Pepper Jax. She informed me that the proteins were gf. I kindly asked her to educate the person that asked her about options. She was super friendly and apologetic. I was in fact able to eat following my strict diet. Sadly Pepper Jax does a poor job making items clear if they contain allergens or informing staff. Over all it was a good experience once everything was figured out. The cook however really needs to wear his mask properly. I have to I work in my restaurant to keep...
