This used to be my favorite Starbucks location. It didn’t matter where I was going, if I wanted coffee or food, this was my spot. The staff was always very pleasant, awesome at best.
For the past couple of weeks, they have been bombarded with lots of “take out” orders. While great for business, in my opinion, it looked like the staff was overwhelmed. They were stressed and you can tell, these “take out” drivers were coming in through the door faster than we could inhale and exhale.
On my last visit, I placed an order for my usual, coffe and a protein box. I walked in, noticed new faces and not my usual barista. The woman who gave me my coffee told me that it would be a few minutes for my second item, my protein box, which I’m ok with given how busy they were... After 5 minutes of waiting and seeing everyone who came in after me pick up their order and go, I looked over to the refrigerator from where I was standing and spotted a protein box that was exactly what I had ordered. I approached a barista and asked him since I was waiting on my second item, i see it in the refrigerator so can I grab it and go? He confirmed that it was ok... I went over to grab my protein box then walked out hoping not to interrupt their flow as it was a really busy day for them... At least I thought this was being a good customer with my silent grab and go approach. Well I thought wrong!
As I walked out the door and started to turn towards my car, i heard a female barista yell at me from inside while the door was slowly closing “HAVE A NICE DAY!” This was upsetting because her time was very condescending. Along with when she chose to utter the phrase, it was definitely intentional. It wasn’t meant to be a positive salutation.
While in my car, I’m feeling shocked and disappointed but I keep telling myself maybe it’s just the stress that she’s under and I try to reason with her unpleasant action.
Needless to say, many people have bad mornings. I myself have had plenty of bad mornings but the next person you encounter can turn your day around. The Starbucks at Chapel Hill is crazy busy as well. We sit in that drive up line for long periods of time but no matter how overwhelmed, the baristas there, especially the male barista, has a way of always making you feel better. Sometimes a pleasant voice and smile is all it takes to turn someone’s bad day around.
So I’m taking a break from my favorite location in hopes that one day when I return, it’ll be a better environment than the past...
Read moreThey would not honor a card I received out of state that says right on it "valid at any Starbucks in the US & card never expires" and on the front it says "Next one is on us..4$ off your next order" because the wait was 25 minutes in the drive thru, the girl gave it to me and I thought it was super thoughtful. Now, months later, I go and use it and this girl keeps telling me the card has a $ 0 balance. I am trying to explain to her that it is not a gift card and it was just a one time 4 dollars off and I don't know how your supposed to process it but that shouldn't my freaking problem anyways. Needless to say, the card is still in my wallet because she refused to comprehend the words that were coming out...
