Huge portions and tastier than expected!! Maybe four stars is slightly over the top, but I feel I have to somewhat make up for those in my opinion unjustified bad reviews; esp. the one complaining about chicken wings and the lack of ketchup - it's a CHINESE restaurant, for crying out loud!! Get CHINESE food!!! It's also not a store, it's a take out restaurant. Some people,really....Anyway, I've picked up lunch there today for the first time (even though I've been going to the Gold's down the road for years, but the place is really tucked away) and was very pleasantly surprised - I got two soups (Won Ton and a mixed vegetable one), as well as the Lo Mein (with mixed meats) and the Bean Curd with Mixed Vegetables. First impression: HUGE portions!! When I lifted the styrofoam containers out of the carrier bag, I almost dropped them because I wasn't expecting this heavy :-) Second impression, after eating some of it: very tasty, the Lo Mein possibly a little on the salty side, which is ok for me because I love salty, but it might be a little much for some - so maybe specify less salt if you don't like or cannot eat lots of salt. The tofu dish was also really good, I don't know how they always manage to make tofu so tasty and when I make it myself, it tends to be bland...The entire check came to $21 bucks and this will provide several more meals for my husband and me - I hardly made a dent in it for lunch today!! It's obviously not Michelin star cuisine, but I found it to be tasty and certainly well worth the price. However, placing my order had gotten interrupted midway through when the teenaged dude behind the counter told me to wait while he answered the phone. Then, my order came out wrong, but it wasn't discovered for a while because they just call out food and not people's names. As a result, I (and the rest of my order) waited a long time until the problem was figured out and they made the correct dish. When I complained that they were charging me $4 more for the difference in price between the wrong dish and the correct item, I was literally ignored by the dude behind the counter. Me: "You shouldn't be charging me the difference for making me have to wait so long." Response: silence and no eye contact. Me: "But you're going to do it anyway." Response: silence and no eye contact. Me: "Are you even hearing me?" Response: "Uh huh." When I finally got the replacement dish, I said to the dude behind the counter: "You just lost a customer over $4." Response: silence and no acknowledgement whatsoever. I'm not surprised. I also said: "I'm going to post this experience online, just so you know." Again, the reaction was as if I wasn't even there. (Total time - 45+ minutes.) Read moreWe have been eating at Hunan Express since early 2000's and have never had a complaint with the food or the service until 1/14/17. I placed an order on a busy Saturday night so I decided to use the online ordering on their website. I placed our order and charged it to a credit card. I called 12 minutes later to verify my order. I was told it would take an additional 50-60 minutes to deliver our order. They only had one driver. I declined to wait that long and went to pick up my family's order. Once I arrived, the restaurant wanted to over charge me. I simply said I wasn't paying extra. The Manager came and tried to explain the extra charges. I told her if you have an online service for your customers to use, you need to explain the extra charges before you charge their credit card. It's providing good customer service!! I asked for a refund because I wasn't happy with the service. Instead she readjusted my bill and charged my credit card saying "I'll do this just this one time, but not ever again." Needless to say I completely didn't appreciate the online ordering, extreme wait for Chinese Food, having to pick up our order because they only had one driver, the Manager's condescending tone and trying to over charge me.
