Luen Hop Chinese Kitchen — Restaurant in Cromwell

This was my first time ordering here and while the food was decent (hence the two stars instead of one) it will be my last due to the worst customer service I have ever received in my life! I placed my order for pick up through an app. Once I arrived I asked for my order and showed her my order through the app I placed it on, and she told me to wait 15 minutes. That was not an issue as sometimes apps take the money but the restaurant may not receive the order, so I figured that was the issue and patiently waited. Once my order was ready she told me the total and expected me to pay AGAIN. I explained to her how I already paid, that she confirmed my order when looking at my phone and that I wasn’t going to pay twice for an order. She proceeds to take the bag and move it away from me and toward her, raising her voice (nearly yelling) explaining how I had to pay. I told her that a customer just picked up an order through the same app I ordered on. She then proceeds to grab her tablet, show my order wasn’t there and at this point is yelling to the point where customers at least 20 feet away in the parking lot could hear. I at this point was done dealing with her inappropriate attitude and behavior so I asked for the total, and she wouldn’t give it to me as she wanted to continue to berate me about how I was wrong. I even told her how I was not raising my voice at her (due to being a white woman I do not ever want to be perceived as a “Karen”) and I would appreciate if she lowered her voice so I could give her the money “I owed” and be on my way. She tells me the total while continuing on, I told her here is your money now I will take my food and be on my way. The employee then continues to yell at me asking what I was going to do to which I said “I will write a review”. As I’m leaving she proceeds to go to the back of the kitchen yelling about me.

I proceeded to call the customer service of the app I ordered on , explained the situation and received a full refund. Therefore I am not writing this review because I had to pay twice for a meal; I am writing this review because I believe NOBODY should support this establishment as their reaction was to be quite frank: immature.

During these rough times, I hope when you order out you’re considering which small food buisnesses to give your money to, as there are many restaurants that deserve it much more...

I love this restaurant, it's the only Chinese Food joint I will go to habitually in the Cromwell/Middletown area. I have gladly driven over 30 minutes to get food from here. The owners and workers and really kind, and you get a strong "family owned" vibe from the restaurant (probably because it is). While the food is still the traditional Americanized Chinese food one would expect to find at these types of restaurants, the food is always hot and delicious, and is definitely worth trying. For the price I definitely recommend it over Wang. The only down side is that there is no delivery, but I am happy to drive to get the food, it is...

Got a simple fried fish with pork fried rice and they subbed the egg roll for a shrimp one no charge!

The total was amazing, and tipped them so the total was only $13.00!

It was super delicious, I could tell they used real fish instead of typical American nasty fish sticks, and they included a homemade tartar sauce!!! It was really the best fried fish/Chinese takeout I have ever had.

I can’t wait to try more next time I drop off a letter or need...
