Coleman's Crystal Lake Bar — Restaurant in Crystal Lake

I guess if I could give FREDDIE'S WEST END in Lake Geneva 5 stars, I can do this for COLEMAN'S. (Crystal Lake only). Both places are small "hole in the wall" bars and restaurants. Both have very limited seating. Both only have a fish fry on Friday. But both have the best fried fish I have had anywhere in the Chicagoland area. We went especially for the "bluegills" which is something VERY FEW restaurants offer anywhere in this area. Also, they both serve exceptional choices of other fish that you won't find just anywhere. Both places will bread and cook your fish to order if you ask. Both offer very good potato pancakes, though Freddie's is definitely the winner here. WARNING. !! Do not go to either place unless you can tolerate a noisy bar type atmosphere. If you are looking for pretentious surroundings, best stay away from either place. But the waitstaff at either place are nice and very accomodating. And finally, the prices !! - - - - $11.99 for any type of fish at Freddie's and $12.95 for most fish choices at COLEMAN'S, who does have an "all you can eat" choice as well. Both places are a little out of the way but it makes a nice road trip if nothing else. I doubt seriously if you will be disappointed in the food at...

It's a small bar on the corner of Berkshire and Virginia Rd. Cutoff. I didn't get the chance to order food. Good place to grab a drink. It has a patio/deck for outside seating. Limited seating at bar, some table seating offered. When I went, the place was full in the parking lot and full inside. I remember this place being the old Frank N Stein. Its interesting what they did to the place and from what I remembered of business that use to be in there. Stop in and have a drink or nibble... It's a small interesting place. We were in the area after visiting the Trading Post, we noticed the sign for fish fry on Fridays, stopped in around 1pm and was warmly greeted by the bartender, a lot of regulars were inside but she did not ignore us and took our drink and then our fish order.
