We wanted to go to the River Ranch for lunch having never been there before. We couldn’t find it. So we pulled into Bubbaques only to find out we were at the right address, it’s just that the River Ranch closed and Bubbaques was now there. Arrived at 12:45pm on 10/04/19 and was promptly seated. Atmosphere was quiet, soft music in the background. We ordered some soft drinks and we were told right up front that the cook was not in and that the manager was working the kitchen. They said it was going to be a little slow getting the food out, but the kitchen was running. We ordered Texas Nachos as an appetizer. For the entrées my wife ordered the Brisket Meltdown which was the Hand Sliced Texas Brisket Topped with Melted Cheddar which was to have Onion Rings. I ordered the “plate” of Texas Brisket - Perfectly Rubbed and Smoked Texas Style Beef Brisket, Hand Sliced to Order, side of French fries, and Baked beans. After a ½ hour the nachos came out. It was served in a small basket lined with paper. The nachos tasted great. But when you get to bottom, the cheese is stuck to the paper as well as the fries and you wind up ripping out the paper by the fork full. I don’t like eating paper. At 1:45 the main course came out. My wife’s order had no onion rings as advertised but was served on paper. She didn’t complain, never does and I didn’t realize anything was missing because it was not my order. She ate ½ the order and asked for a box to bring home for the dog. She not a big fan of BBQ. My entrée was great, but again, served on that stupid paper. The brisket was very tender and I added Mississippi Mud® - super sweet molasses based sauce to it. The baked beans were very good. My wife has the banana pudding as a dessert. I was hoping for cheesecake or something for me, but apparently unless you go to Long Horn Steakhouse in Hernando County you will never get a cheesecake in Citrus County. It must be unheard of. I wasn’t in the mood for a chocolate chip cookie or a brownie, so once again, I passed on dessert. I don’t know what the deal is with the paper the food is served on. If you’re going to serve me lunch on a “plate” for the love of Pete do it. Not on a ¼ size stainless steel cafeteria tray lined with paper. You’re going to wind up washing the tray or baskets anyway. In my opinion the food was great, the service was great. If they’d served food on proper plates and baskets (not French fry baskets) we might be there more often. That...
Read moreWe were told upon entering by hostess "dogs are not allowed" we explained that we had a service dog. the hostess said "not any dogs are allowed" we explained again that we had a registered service dog. the hostess said " I will have to talk to our owner" she was not trained to ask the two questions allowed with ADA. she was trained to deny all dogs, in my opinion. hostess came back and said "we do not allow service dogs" we both heard her say this. we explain again that she is a registered service dog. She goes back to her owner. At this point, I am upset and notice that the owners have proudly displayed in a frame above hostess desk a service dog certificate course.. Yet this hostess can not ask the two proper allowed questions??and says 'NOT ANY DOGS ALLOWED, AND WE ALLOW NO DOGS, WE DO NOT ALLOW SERVICE DOGS. WE BOTH HEARD THIS. The owner comes out and says she does not have to serve us in her restaurant and she is not going to serve us. I tell her we have a registered service dog. She says quote "anyone can register a dog" I tell her this dog is a trauma dog and I can show her the doctors diagnosis and training even though I am not legally obligated to. " she says she does not want to see it. and she says quote "well the dog is not doing its job now for you, is it" I feel this was taunting to me with a disability and so very rude from an owner. She told us we could sit outside in a dog area with picnic tables. I was very upset as I have trauma and was crying. We sat outside for 20 minutes. No-one bothered to wait on us. Then my fiancee went back inside and she told him that she had no waitress for outside!! so she basically denied us service. I seen a review below, so this is not the first time this has happened and of course the owner will say we were rude. we were upset for being denied service with a service dog. This establishment puts a certificate of service dog training at the hostess desk, to act like it is abiding by the laws. the hostess we feel was trained to say no dogs period and to get the owner. I feel my rights were violated as the person that posted below me. The restaurant was not even busy she could of easily set us and let us eat our service dog is very well behaved and been in much finer establishments. I feel this will happen to many more with disabilities and rights will continue to be denied. I felt judged and I felt like my rights were violated under the Americans with...
Read moreFirst time there and we should have walked out early on. It took about 5 minutes to be acknowledged and then another 15 until a table was made available. I will mention now that about a third of the tables were not being used. We heard the same story from three different employees “a new employee on their second day of training no showed”. We were seated near the bar and the bartender was to be our server. She greeted us and when she took our drink order, my wife mentioned this was our first time there to which she immediately said “I’m sorry” and left our table, never to be seen again! After sitting there about 5 minutes, and commenting to each other that maybe we should leave, I flagged down the owner/manager and asked if he could take our order to which he said he’d be right back. I will add now that another couple who arrived after us and where seated on the other side of the bar had already ordered and were at the salad bar. The manager stopped back by and told us his wife would take our order. My wife ordered the brisket plate and I ordered the Bubba pork sandwich. When the food came, they were both sandwiches, which our server (owners wife) immediately noticed and said “you ordered the platter, I can fix this quick” and took her plate(tray actually) away. When she returned, one of the pieces of toast that made up the sandwich was gone, nothing else done. By the way, taking one piece of toast away ending up costing $4 more!!!!! The difference between a dinner and a sandwich. Same two sides, same amount of meat. My pork was so so, her brisket was very dry and cold. Her okra was hot and the best part of her meal as her broccoli was lukewarm was salty. When we finished, both trays were pushed to the side but nobody came by. After a few minutes we got up and went to the register. After another few minutes, the bartender comes up with our bill and immediately leaves. Another server answered our question as to why we had two different amounts on our receipt (2 1/2% up charge for using a credit card) and we left. My parting comment is if a second day employee not showing up causes this much of an issue, maybe they shouldn’t have opened the doors to start with. Very...
