First, let me get this out of the way. I'm not an angry customer. Nothing bad happened. I'm not trying to be a horses rear-end and just give a bad review. I always call it like I see it with 100% accurate reviews.
Ok, so I've heard a lot about this place. It's been open a while but I never visited - until today.
Look, I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to food. I almost have no 'dislike threshold'. But....
The appetizer was great, actually. Loaded fries. Had 2-3 kinds of melted cheese and bacon on them and the fries' cut was unique. Scarfed those down and between my wife and I we couldn't finish them. It was a lot of food for an appetizer. On to main course...
No. Just no! I ordered a build my own burger. Well done with Cajun seasoning and all the fixins' (onion, cheese, bacon, etc). My side was macaroni and cheese. Water to drink. Honestly, the water was the best part. The mac and cheese was packaged. It's the same stuff you'd find at a gas station deli or even Captain D's. It was gross! My burger, while cooked exactly as I ordered it, had ZERO flavor (imagine chewing air or water that had a burger texture). Really? No taste at all?! Didn't even get a hint of Cajun seasoning. Meat alone should have some taste. Nothing. No salt, nothing. Completely 100% no taste. The side of jalapeño ranch was the only flavor it had - thank God I asked for it.
My wife got the Chipotle Honey salmon with sides of baked potato and broccoli cheddar soup. Where to start... The salmon was NOT Chipotle. They attempted an Asian flavor, not Chipotle. The only way we knew this was because they give you an extra cup of the liquid 'Chipotle' flavoring they use to season the fish. The fish was just slightly undercooked but not raw at all. And just like my burger, it has ZERO flavor. If it weren't for the cup of sauce we wouldn't have tasted it at all. Her baked potato was around 20% undercooked. And the broccoli cheddar soup was (and I truly hate to say this as I love this kind of soup) the worst soup of its kind I've ever put in my mouth. To add to that, there were three massive chunks of broccoli in it. "Well, it was broccoli cheddar soup" you say? Yeah, but when we removed the three pieces there was barely any soup left in the tall, skinny coffee cup they served it in. The volume was literally 70% uncut broccoli!
Augusta's, you did really well hiring your wait staff. There are some absolutely GORGEOUS young ladies working there. Our waitress was amazing. Thanks, Kacy!
But food-wise... The owners need to take a hard look at what they are asking their cooks to serve. A place like this, meaning a nice local eatery/grill, NEEDS to set itself apart from the crowd. I'm utterly disappointed in my first and only visit and I'm embarrassed to say I ever recommended this place to anyone before trying...
Read moreI have always had decent service at Augusta’s until May 25, 2019. We had decided to eat here after my cousin’s graduation. We were told there would be about a 30 minute wait and we were fine with that. It was extremely hot outside so we were crowding the entrance a little. There was a woman that took the number of our party and wrote our name down. The host, at the door, kept giving our party hateful looks and sat another party that came in after us, before us. When we mentioned something to the woman that had taken our name, the host threw her hands up in the air and stomped off. The other woman then explained the situation about the seating and then mentioned the host was new and shy. I offered to apologize for questioning the seating arrangements and even offered to apologize to the host. The host continues to stare at us and give us hateful looks. When we said something again to the other woman and asked for the manager, the other woman said she was the owner. The owner walks off and when she comes back, she says ‘she is crying now. You accomplished what you set out to do’ to me. I understand that the host might have been new, but she continued to give us hateful looks and I feel that if she was new, she should not have been left alone. She did not have good customer service skills but we were the ones that were blamed for making her cry when all we did was mentioned how hateful she was looking at us. VERY unprofessional. Never once did I see that host smile. I do not plan to go back after this experience and I hope no one else has an...
Read moreWe came to lunch here Friday afternoon after visiting Cullman to see the Christmas pyramid - my mom grew up having one at her family dinner table during the holidays. Looking for a place to eat after viewing the statue, we settled on Augusta's as it was open and had high reviews.
I thought we were going to have to wait as there was a party waiting for a table outside, but we were seated immediately. They took extra care to make sure the table was clean and ready for us. We needed to get in and out fairly quickly so we placed our order at the same time as our drinks. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating.
The atmosphere is fairly typical sports bar. Warm lights and dark wood, big TVs, lots of high top tables.
The sweet tea I ordered was right on the nose. My parents split a Philly steak type of sandwich with fries, while I kept it boring and got chicken tenders with two sides. I tried the fries and mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was the weakest link - pretty obviously just the boxed stuff. However, the tenders were obviously hand breaded and very large. The meat was juicy and the breading was crunchy, and our waitress provided me some good ranch for dipping. We all really enjoyed the fries -- they're thick cut, almost like sidewinders, perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and potatoey on the inside. Parents greatly enjoyed their Philly sandwich and said it was the perfect amount of food to share.
Augusta's got the job done and did it well on our pass through town. Thanks for the...
