Los Cabos Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Cullman

I like leaving very honest reviews, and every place has pros and cons so I'll start with the pros because I think this is a place worth stopping at and trying in Cullman, Alabama.

The pros: The service was great. Selina is a wonderful hostess. I tipped her 30% of our bill, and I still felt it wasn't enough. She left a great impression on both me and my girlfriend.

The atmosphere he is terrific. A beautiful and creative interior design.

The lunch prices are great and very reasonable.

I had ordered a grilled chicken chimichanga lunch plate. The chimichanga was small but quite tasty.

We also had queso, which was a little different and pretty good. There was a hint of spice to it and a little bit of a tomato taste. I told my girlfriend it was a little "pimento-y".

The restrooms seemed very clean, but I will mention something about them in the cons.

The middle ground: I genuinely believe there is potential for the beans and rice as the rice has a piece of green bean or a small green pepper in it and the beans had a hint of spice, but something was missing for me on both. The beans were a little runny and the rice was a little boring other than the one piece of whatever was green in it. I'd like to see a little more personality in the rice. The potential is there.

The cons: A normal and not surprising con I usually give Mexican restaurants is about the salad. It was boring and cheap tasting, but this is unfortunately an expected thing when dining Mexican. They threw some different cheese on top of it which helped, but it still left a lot to be desired.

The salsa was a little different, not terrible, but not enjoyable to me. Maybe it should be in "the middle ground", but I appreciate a good salsa, and the salsa coming out in tiny plastic black cups already warned me about the quality of the salsa.

While the restrooms looked very clean, they also look like sketchy gas station restrooms. They desperately need renovated. Again, the toilets and sink were very clean. It just looks very trashy. A very minor complaint I'll throw in here is the combination of no paper towels and the fact the hand dryer is not obvious. It took me a second to realize it was the hand dryer as I was looking for paper towels.

My closing thoughts: As this establishment has now celebrated it's 20th anniversary, I will say it was a pleasant experience with friendly and helpful employees. I do think there is room for improvement, and that I'd be happy to give this restaurant five stars the next time I'm in the area. The atmosphere and how great Selina was made me want to put 5 stars here already, but after seeing and experiencing it more, I felt I'd be dishonest if I rated it perfectly. My boyfriend and I came here Monday. During the slow time of the day. About two tables other than us. It took over 10 mins for our server to introduce himself by that time we were ready to order and told him that. But after getting our drink orders he just walks away. We wait another 15 minutes til he returns to take our order. Once we eat I ask for a to go box he brings it to me and it’s clear that we have finished eating. Then yet again we sit for another 25 mins waiting on him to bring us ours check. So we get up look around to find him. He’s no where to be found. Wr go to the cashier to ask her but she didn’t hear us because she was too busy in her phone. I have never walked out on a check before in my life. But expecting to be there for 30 mins about turns into an hour an a half. Like I said this happened Monday. Today is Wednesday. Today my boyfriend gets a DM from this restaurant and tells him after some research him and Averie. Using my name even spelling it right and texting him on social media. Now I know there was no body we knew in there and I know for sure they didn’t know our names for them to be dming us and knowing our names!! They had to do some deep diving. we ignore the DM. two hours later they Dm him again with two pictures of us one while we’re still in the restaurant. I think this is so unprofessional and seems a little wrong when you don’t even know who we are and for you to deep dive so much where you somehow find out names and social media and blow...

This has always been my favorite Mexican restaurant, however recently we have found the quality of the food to be inconsistent. Additionally we had issues with our most recent takeout orders. On June 30th we received an incorrect item, Chili Santa Fe (I couldn’t eat as the steak was too dry) when we actually ordered Chili San Jose which has shrimp. On July 12th we ordered a Mister Burrito which has historically been excellent, however this time the steak was over cooked, it had very few shrimp and despite the aluminum pan that it was in being very hot, the inside of the burrito wasn’t very warm never mind hot, it was overall tasteless and gave the impression that it had just been reheated. The Chili San Jose did not have the traditional side salad items that normally accompany it. I called and initially was told that those items don’t come with it but when I persisted that they did, I was told that I really was correct and they would compensate me with a order of cheese sauce! We have been going to this restaurant for years and have taken many friends and family with us. However, currently in addition to my most takeout experiences, I am disappointed with the general run down appearance, cleanliness overall and especially the condition of the ladies room.
