The food wasn’t great. Brisket was extremely dry, like shockingly dry. It was also kind of tough and I couldn’t just pull it apart. The food is also just outrageously expensive here. $8 for a bowl of beans (probably from a can) is absurd. $4+ per biscuit, $8 for pickles, etc. I think I went during happy hour and a beer also ended up being cheaper than a soda by about .25c, which is extremely odd. Their menu is the most confusing and poorly designed menu I’ve ever seen in my life. I can see they serve burgers, but not on the menu? Where is the option for a plate of food? Also nothing comes with your order. Fries? $6. Pickles? Way too many for $8. I asked the waiter if he’d think one order of pickles for one person was enough and he had no clue. He brings it out and it’s way too many for one person. The tables are too close together and people start staring at you, the waiters are incompetent, the design of this restaurant isn’t anything special (black hanging lights, wood tables, typical “new-age” modern), but the atmosphere is hard to pay attention to when you’re stuffed between people. Also the service isn’t very good. They don’t check up on you that much.
When you’re done with your meal and want to pay, you have to immediately pay when the server comes up to you with one of those Square credit card machines. So you immediately pay, and then it asks for a tip of course. My waiter was barreling down staring at me waiting for me to click 20% and it was so awkward. This was the same waiter who almost made me spend $16 on pickles and didn’t provide great service, so I gave him 18%. Immediately he asks me if everything was alright in a very concerned tone. I mean cmon, you’re gonna ask me AFTER I don’t tip you 20%? Felt shady and weird.
Would I go back? Maybe one more time. Wouldn’t recommend it though. This place will close within 3 years, I guarantee it. There’s way better...
Read moreFirst, let me say regarding my average post, that our hostess was very friendly and was fantastic. I believe her name was Megan. Forgive me if I've scrambled her name, but whatever her name is, she was very attentive.
Upon arrival, we realized that parking is a premium, and traffic is a nightmare. It's a very small parking lot, with very little parking around the perimeter. Apparently, we got there at a pretty good time. It's been a week and a half or so, but I think it was around noon. We were able to find parking outside the perimeter wrought iron. When we walked into the dining area there was an immediate, and very friendly aroma of barbecue. A definite step in the right direction. I ordered a spare rib, brisket combo that is featured in a photo below. I ordered macaroni and cheese and vinegar coleslaw as my sides. Sounded pretty good. When I received the offering, I was a little disappointed in the spare ribs. You may notice in the photo how the one end of the rib tapers down to pretty much a bone. That was indeed the case. Not very meaty at all. The other rib offering was more of an end and wasn't very tender. A little tougher than I like my ribs to be. Also, I didn't get the vinegar coleslaw that I originally ordered. Instead, I was giving some pot beans. Our server was quick to make it right, and left the beans with me to sample. She retrieved the proper order in a timely manner. The brisket was overdone, but real tasty. No real complaints beyond that. The biscuits were real tasty, and the cornbread was real tasty. A nice whipped honey butter is in the serving dish alongside each of those offerings.
We would definitely return to this place if we were in the area. But, to leave the Antelope Valley to make a special trip for smoked ribs down to Culver City isn't very enticing in the first place. However, if our future guides us that way, we'll...
Read moreHuge disappointment. Made a reservation for the dining Room but were seated outside on the patio. Didn't make a big deal since there was a heater. The place was empty. They sat 5 of us on the first 4 top table and capped the end off which made everyone entering and exiting the patio walk around my daughter who was sitting on the capped off seat. I chose the restaurant especially because they had collard greens but was told they were out of sausages, collard greens and one other item I don't remember. For a really busy weekend for all shops and restaurants, how are you out of items on a Friday night? Voicing my disappointment to the server, I would think she would care or have something to recommend but we had zero conversation back from her. With the place being empty and the server/manager/owner not having too much to do, I would think they would want to be hospitable and converse with their guests or try to make a good impression, or care that they were 86ed two of the items a table wanted to order. Everyone ordered and I told her I needed another minute or two. Some of the food started to arrive and I told the busser I wanted to order the salmon. But then immediately after the rest of the food arrived so then I told him to cancel the salmon. Thought my salad and starter pickles would come first. Oh well. I ended up just picking off my kids' plates. Husband thinks he is a Rib Master. He did not care for the ribs at all. Neither did my 13 year old. My 18 year old had the tacos tray, which was a lot of food. His girlfriend had the mac and cheese. Which she said was just ok. Best thing was the biscuit. Wanted to try the banana pudding but we decided to hit the mall and get dessert there. Again, wanted to like the place but most likely will not be going back. Prefer Morfia's,...
