From Redondo Beach to Culver City, here Sweet Wheat came with its brand new location, which thankfully is way closer for me! Being a regular around the area, I have seen multiple establishments came and went away on the same space. Not complaining certainly as it just meant another new one to try, and now that it’s Sweet Wheat, absolutely thrilled!
The options they offered were nothing less than rich. Lots of pastries and cakes to try with even good deals (free 1 of a-kind) f you ordered beyond 3 pieces. It’s interesting that some pastries were offered in petite size. I know the Redondo one provided online pre-order option so I assumed they likely brought that to this newly opened one as well, including the longer operational hours.
It’s right across the Culver Steps so very easy to find. Many parking garage nearby at affordable rates if you couldn’t find street parking.
They’re super early bird, opening their door from 6:30 AM. Surprisingly it’s already kind of busy even before eight, but service was speedy and deserving 2 thumbs up. I tried to make a stop during my run and ended up finding myself in trouble bringing back a huge bag of pastries.
Some of those I got: Mini Almond croissant 3.5/5 (maybe 4 if reheated) Pain au Choc 3.5/5 Canele 3/5 Blueberry Madeleine 3.5/5 Chocolate French Toast 4/5
The croissants were delicious and properly stuffed even the mini ones, which was a rare find. If they could be reheated I could see them knock it off the park. Canele was decent with crunch outside and chewy inside, but I wouldn’t call it my top list. The blueberry madeleine to my surprise got me pleased, prolly with the extra stuffing that elevated overall taste. The french toast was truly the star being so moist and rich. Beware it’s tad heavy so recommended to share.
They provided huge dine-in space with classic French touch in the design. Outdoor patio seats were certainly my pick if I were to dine in, while enjoying the hustle bustle of...
Read moreI’m French, and for the past years I’ve been DREAMING of a spot in LA where I could sit with a coffee and a croissant while people-watching. Until now, Erewhon was my go to but sorry Erewhon, you just lost a client 😆🤣 No more silly stickers on my coffee’s or security guards checking them every time. I’m so glad to be done with that.
I’m so happy to have finally found this spot. I’m not moving anywhere else! The inside is perfect, and seeing real French pastries makes me over the moon!! I also love getting coffee, croissants and pastries from Bianca, but now I finally have a second option and since breakfast is the most important meal of the day for me, this is huge. No more $7 Erewhon croissants… yes to $2 mini $4 normal sized croissants from Sweet Wheat and truly delicious pastries! Finally!!!
One small note: the sandwiches were a bit dry when I stopped by at 2:30pm (almost closing time), it’s understandable. But I’m sure they’ll figure out how to keep things fresher with time. (I’m actually eating one now, and it’s really good!)
Also, the cashier area feels a little cramped, which makes it harder for them to take payments smoothly, and the line system could be more organized. The key is faster, more efficient service like French boulangeries speed so everyone gets taken care of quickly. That said, the staff was amazing! I can only imagine the stress they’re under during opening.
The salads aren’t very French, but I understand they’re catering to different tastes too. Overall though, I’m thrilled. Finally, real French pastries in LA! 🥐☕ and a place where I can enjoy a...
Read moreProduction bakery etc and Coffees etc are and look delicious, Im wondering why the first impression of service and cordiality to customers is so rude and does not have any training at all ! The common sense doesn’t fit in this place , the ambience , even very frenchy , very cold ! It might come from the hiring non expertise, and non focus on sales with cordiality , and attention to detail. Manager should be in place controlling any miss steps, organizing all. More at the beginning of a Business , is the first impression that matters and maybe after months you can call it done deal , you’ve train your way , and then clap 👏👏 But really , that s not this case , you need to improve in many aspects without any excuse if not knowing confusing sizes in which a coffee should be served , what’s the Cafe Richard doing in the ceramic ware ????????? when you are called Sweet Wheat ! A soup in carton ? That’s where you need a ceramic bowl , no class , much mess , no ambience , out of price ( higher than others around ) bakery ? well ……….. food? ……. Well ……oh la la ! Very pricey , chau ! Bon Ami!!!!!!! good luck with your style & Business !!!! You spent so much money on this ! Hope you...
