I Love the Gringo's off 290, We have been going there for years, favorite dish is the marisco bowl, favorite drink is the red, white and blue margarita but everything there is delicious, have never been disappointed and have always had great service even when they are busy. Went there last night with my family, was seated and promptly taken care of by our waiter, Marcos, he took our orders and our food came out pretty quick, I ordered my marisco bowl because it is my favorite dish but the marisco chicken came out instead, I told Marco's I ordered the marisco bowl not marisco chicken, he said he just misunderstood me which is understandable considering they are very close to the same thing, he said he would have the correct meal out shortly which was fine because I would just start on my charro beans which are also delicious, then the manager Miguel came over and offered me the meal that was accidentally ordered, he said would you like to snack on this while you wait for your other meal and of course I said yes! Miguel said he hated to see everyone eating around me while I wait for my meal, I have never had this happen before and thought this was such a nice thing to do, One, that he offered me the meal and two, he was really paying attention to his customers, which is hard to come by nowadays! I was also impressed with Marco, our waiter because he brought our kids another drink without us having to ask, this is also hard to come by nowadays. Sorry for the long review but.....just wanted to say Thank you to Marco's and Miguel for making us feel like we mattered. I did not tell them but it was my Birthday yesterday, it has become a tradition, this is what we do every year for my Birthday, nice to feel special on my special day! Makes me love Gringos even more! Ok, one more thing, I also found out I liked the marisco chicken, which is like the marisco bowl but served on a plate over sliced grilled chicken which had the best flavor, tasted grilled and not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI absolutely love Gringoās! The ingredients are fresh and I love their creamy jalapeƱo dip that they bring out to your table with the chips and red salsa. My favorite dish is the shrimp pacifico, it's served on a hot skillet with sautĆ©ed onions, bell peppers, squash and zucchini and comes with all the fajita side dishes, including your choice of bean and corn or flour tortillas.
We have company luncheons in the back room, but it tends to be pretty loud. They give us one long table with ample room, we usually have 15-20 people and never have to wait to be seated if we call ahead. They will box up any dishes for us and we all leave at the same time. Very on their game there.
It is, for some reason always very cold in there, so make sure to bring a light sweater. I actually consider this a good thing because I'd rather than be cold than sweating at a restaurant!
They have a huge bar with lots of TVs and a fun, upbeat atmosphere.
They have gigantic circular and square booths that will seat 4-6 people. The tables have plenty of room too. Nothing worse than sitting at a table that's the size of a chessboard. The chairs are comfortable.
Huge, well lit parking lot with plenty of parking. In all the times I've gone, I've never had to hunt for a spot circling the restaurant. And even when the restaurant is packed, the wait is usually never more than ten minutes.
The wait staff is absolutely always nice and friendly and on their game. I have never had to send any food back or had any other issues.
Now, the take-out service I'd give a three star. I've had missing items, had to wait 20 minutes after calling it in 45 minutes in advance. I always tip 15% on take-out, but here I only tip 10% because of all the waits and mistakes. In their defense, I got tired of it and stopped doing it about two years ago so it may have gotten better.
I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe server staff training seems to have gone downhill. The food is great and the restaurant is clean, but we've had a bad waiter the last three times we've been to the Cypress location.
The first bad experience, the server forgot our order and came back maybe 10 minutes later to ask us to give the order again. She continued to forget things and was generally inattentive.
The second has experience, the server came to our table once for the entire visit. He didn't even expo our food. I watched him cutting up with the kitchen staff and staying at the back of the restaurant goofing off.
This last time, our server kept walking off while we were in mid sentence. He was also mumbling something under his breath each time he walked away. I have no idea what the problem was, but he seemed very nervous. (Maybe new?)
My intentions aren't to undermine the GM's efforts, but I think the Katy GM should pay this store a visit and assist with some retraining of the staff. The Katy location always has fantastic server staff.
Lastly, and not exclusively the fault of this location itself, but before we left, a group of 6-7 early 20s couples came in and were dressed like... Adult entertainers? Extremely revealing clothing that would result in an indecent exposure charge in front of the right crowd.
It was nasty, and the staff seated them anyway and acted as if this wasn't an issue. I don't know what Gringo's policy is on allowing nudity in their restaurant, but I'm appalled that nothing was said to this group by the time we left.
Both locations' kitchen, bussers, and expo...
