Update – Response to the business's reply: Thank you for responding, but I need to be honest. What you said does not reflect what actually happened.
You mentioned it was a busy time, but that doesn’t explain why a woman and child who walked in after me were greeted and seated immediately, while I continued to be overlooked. That was hard not to notice.
This was never just about how long my order took. It was about how I was treated while I waited. I wasn’t even given any direction or communication to let me know what was going on. I was just left standing there with no clarity on whether anyone was actually going to help me.
There were other people in the restaurant, and none of them looked like me. As the only Black customer present, the difference in how I was treated didn’t go unnoticed. I was clearly not given the same courtesy or urgency as others. I hope your team reflects on that seriously.
As I stated while I was there, be professional and better than this. And please, communicate more clearly with the people standing right in front of you.
Original: I came in to pick up a takeout order I placed directly through their website. I wasn’t with Uber Eats, DoorDash, or any delivery service; I was the customer. I stood at the front counter for several minutes without being acknowledged. The man behind the sushi bar barely looked at me and said someone else would help. Then nothing. I waited, clearly visible, and still no one addressed me.
Eventually, a woman and a boy walked in well after I had already been standing there. A man came out, greeted them right away, and asked “How many” as he grabbed two menus for them. As this was happening, I was still standing there and told him I was there for a pickup. Without stopping or checking anything, he said “I’ll check for you” while continuing to walk them to the back and seat them. From that point on, his full attention was on them.
That same man, who was supposed to help me, then started taking their order. I walked toward another counter and said “Excuse me,” and a woman came out from the back. I said, “Let’s be better than this. Let’s be professional.” She told me that same man would assist me, but he continued focusing on the other table.
After that, he walked over to the same counter, tapped something on the computer, went to the back kitchen area, came out, said something to the man behind the sushi bar, and suddenly my bag appeared. He stapled the receipt to it and finally turned to me and said, “Pick up for __?” That was the first real acknowledgment I received.
I had been standing visibly near the host stand by the door for at least five minutes before that woman walked in, and I was completely overlooked. Watching someone who arrived well after me get greeted, seated, and served while I continued to be ignored wasn’t just disrespectful. It was demeaning.
You guessed it, I was the only Black person in the building, and it showed. This was unacceptable. I will...

Oh my goodness... This has to be the best sushi I've ever had!! So many creative options too! Pages and pages, it was hard to choose! But oh man was it good 🤤 this place is versatile too, it seems like it would be perfect for a dressy date night but also a casual lunch! You will likely spend a little bit more money here than other places, but oh it is SO WORTH IT!
My dad has been going here for a little while now, and he decided he wanted sushi for father's day, so this is where we went. It was quiet, we were the only ones there for the most part (but we did catch it at an odd hour between lunch and dinner). The food and service was exceptional!! Everything was plated beautifully too.
They gave us a trio salad sampler - seaweed, squid, and cucumber - the squid salad tasted really similar to the seaweed salad, both were really good! I'm not a cucumber fan, but the sauce they mixed it with was good too!
I had the tempura shrimp sushi and the BSCR roll. Both were so fresh and wonderful! I loved that the sushi was a thinner, smaller roll, but still had a lot of substance to it! Much easier to eat.
Now the BSCR roll honestly deserves its own individual review - it was THAT good. Perry's is known for their decadent pork chop, this place should be known for this roll! I have never had sushi melt in my mouth before, this did! And not in a weird texture sensory way either. Baked scallops on top of crab meat, avocado, cream cheese, eel sauce, and some panko/tempura crunch. I was intrigued when I saw baked scallops on the menu, something I'd never considered for sushi before. When I took that first bite, it exceeded expectations! It was perfect. I'll probably dream about that sushi roll it was that good 😂
My dad and I each got a simple ($6-8) roll, and a fancier roll ($12-15), plus we shared the salad trio. We both probably could have eaten another roll, but would have been hurting for sure! I actually didn't get hungry again an hour later, like I usually do after eating sushi. It was a very welcomed surprise!
I took some fried oysters to my mom, so we did not try them fresh in the restaurant, but even at home they were still pretty good! Probably the best I've found this far off the coast!!
Almost forgot - even their sweet tea was really good! It was a good southern sweet tea! Not like the typical restaurant sweet tea you get most places.
TLDR: so many choices of amazing food (especially BSCR roll! And they have good fried oysters?!), amazing sweet tea, service, atmosphere! Exceeded expectations and will be back!! My new go-to...
Read moreIf you know me I'm always searching for new places to try sushi and this was on the way home from the gym. My wife and I stopped by since she was craving ramen as well.
I typically order the menu when I try a new sushi place but as I was ordering she stopped me n asked if I wanted to try something different when I ordered a shaggy dog. I know shaggy dog is a basic roll 🤣 but this was the first time someone asked me if I wanted to try something different than what I ordered. I wasn't even done ordering 🤣 Some people may take that a different way but I was already planning to order a bunch of rolls so I let her sell me on some menu items. She wanted us to try their rolls so I figured she must think they're really good let's do it. We ended up ordering 2 ramen and a bunch of rolls and as I finish she asks if I like Toro. Of course I do lol. So she says u should try our Toro. I was like bet gimme what u got! I ordered more nigiri also and I can say I really enjoyed the food!
Her suggestions were good and you can tell the quality of the sushi is not what you'd expect from a ramen place. The sushi quality is above and beyond any of the sushi places in the Cypress area even in Houston.
The ramen was good. The meats were cooked well and the egg was perfect. After my first bite I was already impressed since I didn't expect it to be prepared this well. I'm not so much a ramen person but this was good ramen!
For the sushi, I've been to just about every sushi place around Houston! If I haven't been it must be new.. Like this place was lol. This currently ranks as my top sushi place in Cypress. There are alot of sushi places rated high in the area but the quality does not match the reviews. This place is currently a hole in the wall! The place was empty when we went, yes I did come 40 min before closing, but it did not feel that way at all. I wish I took photos of the food to post but I eat sushi so much I don't even bother. This place deserved it tho so I will come back with fresh photos!
Overall this place has the best sushi and ramen in the Cypress area hands down. The next time I come I don't expect the place to be...
