First visit to the new Cypress location. Meat cleaver handles on the entrance doors set the tone. Nice open layout with a bar area. I'll be back to check out the bar. The menu is clear and prices are easily understood. Like most Texas BBQ joints they use the tray cafeteria style to order. Be ready to choose your meats and how many you want, 2 meat plate etc. I order sliced fatty brisket and sausage on my first visit to any BBQ joint. You get that right and everything else falls into place. I also got cream corn and pinto beans as part of my plate. The portions are appropriate at about 1/4 lb of brisket and one sliced sausage link. Sides are portioned out in paper boats and filled to the top. Bread is at the register that is given by request. Off to the side is an area with self serve pickles, onions, and whole jalapeños. The brisket was juicey and had a hint of smoke flavor. Not too much smoke. The sausage was tastey but not spicy. The creamed corn was on point. The pinto beans were good but maybe cook them for another hour or so. Each table had three different BBQ sauces for you to use. They have fountain drinks and beer if you want. Prices are what you expect from the current market. My 2 meat 2 side plate was about $20. I will definitely be back and I'll get more pictures. Hoping to get a better look around to share here.

I feel that this location can be a hit or a miss when it comes to the food. I went through the drive through yesterday to order a BBQ Rib sandwich, but they did not have which was okay so I ordered a pork rib meat plate which you can choose 2 sides so I had the BBQ Baked Beans and Brussels sprouts. I also ordered for desert the bread pudding. After I pulled off from the drive through window into the parking lot to try the sides as I was anxious to taste the sides I was disappointed because the sides were not hot which leads me to believe that they were already cooked but no one decided to reheat the sides before giving me the food. I don’t feel that I should have to ask for my food to be hot if I am going to a restaurant especially ordering take out. The Brussels sprouts were not tender but a bit tough. The pork ribs were amazingly tender and delicious. The bread pudding was delicious as well. The service is always exceptional. I am not sure if I will go through the drive through again, I think I may have a better experience going inside, but because I was in a rush I went through the drive through and the fact that I was so hungry I had not eaten all day from morning and it was almost 4pm I just took the food home and reheated it. Can’t comment on the atmosphere I have never been inside only through the drive through.

It’s been roughly a decade since going to Killeens. The Cypress location has been open one week. But, we like, so many others were so excited to have them on our side of town. We all waited patiently and excitedly almost out the door on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The line moved quick enough. Good — beef rib is the reason to go back because of the deep beef flavor. Super sweet staff. Green beans not beat to death. Bad - mush mac and cheese, ok taste. Potato salad tasted like it came from the refrigerated section of grocery store. Brussels sprouts were mostly overcooked. Pork rib a little dry. Under-seasoned, possibly overcooked brisket. Sausage had a weird seasoning in it. Ugly - watery barbecue sauces. No system for calling out orders ready. It’s not advantageous to walk around table to table for 10+ minutes asking if you ordered (fill in the blank). This is why I don’t go to restaurants when they first open. They need a month or a few to work out the kinks. I don’t blame the restaurant at all. Another barbecue place was in this building previously, for not even a year. I blame the location/building. Try some smudging and holy water. Worst case scenario - call me and I can come consult on a food pick up system - gratis.

Ok, first let me say, I've tried almost every barbecue place that on Texas monthlys top 20 list. I've been all over Texas to have the best barbecue. I've even stopped in Kansas City, to try some of the highest rated barbecue in the United States. I am a BBQ connoisseur.

Now all that said, I ate BBQ from Killens at the original Pearland location on multiple occasions over the years. Later I tried the Woodlands location, which in all honesty I didn't think was quite on par with Pearland. Sometimes the Woodlands location very good, and sometimes it's just good. A little inconsistent if I'm being honest. Now that is the Woodlands, not the new Cypress location.

I heard a lot of negative stuff about the new Cypress location and I have a lot of family and friends over here, and because I've tried some of the best BBQ in the world, they all asked me my opinion. So today I was out in Cypress and swung by Killens and grabbed a little brisket and pork belly burnt ends, which both should be phenomenal if cooked correctly.

I spoke to Shawn (or maybe Shaun) who was one of the managers working and he was very polite. He is originally from the Woodlands location. So here is the truth about the Killens Cypress location:

It is the best BBQ in Cypress... PERIOD! If you are comparing it to Spring Creek BBQ you either work for Spring Creek BBQ or you have no idea what good BBQ tastes like! They are not even in the same league.

The brisket was so close to perfect here at Killens that I would have to be super picky to even try to say how they could improve on it. I would give it a 95 out of 100. The pork belly burnt ends were perfect, 100 out of 100... Can't be improved on.

I use to drive out to Truth BBQ and occasionally Southside Market from Cypress to get good BBQ, but now, I will be going to Killens. It's that simple.

Order some fatty brisket, and some pork belly burnt ends, and taste a little bit of heaven. You won't find any...

Killen's BBQ in Cypress is a must-visit destination for barbecue lovers, offering a mouthwatering experience that leaves you eager to return. From the moment you step inside, the inviting aroma of smoked meats and the cozy, rustic atmosphere set the stage for a memorable dining experience. The food at Killen’s BBQ is nothing short of spectacular. The brisket, with its perfect smoky crust and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, was a standout, while the ribs were juicy, flavorful, and fell right off the bone. The sausage was expertly seasoned, and the pulled pork was incredibly moist, packed with rich, smoky flavor. The sides were equally impressive, with the creamy mac and cheese and old school potato salad offering the perfect balance to the savory meats. And don’t miss their desserts—especially the bread pudding, which was the perfect sweet finish to an indulgent meal. What truly elevated my visit, however, was the exceptional service from my server, Mia. She greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel welcome right away. Mia was attentive and knowledgeable, recommending the best dishes Her enthusiasm for the menu was contagious, and her timing was impeccable—she always seemed to appear just when we needed something. Mia brought a personal touch to the experience that made the meal truly unforgettable. In addition to Mia’s stellar service, the entire staff at Killen's BBQ contributed to the restaurant's warm and welcoming atmosphere. The team worked together seamlessly, ensuring every guest was well cared for, from the kitchen to the front of the house. This combination of exceptional food and attentive service makes Killen’s BBQ a standout destination. If you’re in Cypress and craving barbecue, this is the...

UPDATE: I am going to update my review for Killen's in Cypress. Since the time I left the negative review below, I've avoided them as much as possible. A couple of months ago, my sister in law had Killen's catered for her birthday party, and since I had no other options, I tried it. Blew me away. The quality of the brisket was night and day compared to my prior experience. I know that bbq quality can vary at most restaurants from one day to the next, so I gave them a third try last week at their restaurant. Again, the meat was phenomenal, and so were the sides. They're on my regular rotation now. Looking forward to more visits! = = = = =

The sides were pretty good. We tried the Brussels sprouts, baked beans, Mac n cheese, green beans, and onion rings. Hard to find fault with any of them.

The brisket was...not great. I'd heard great things about Killen's, but this disappointed. Flavor was ok, but it was tough and rubbery. I thought it might be because I order it lean, so I tried my lunch companion's moist brisket cut...same problem, like sawing through a log.

Odd thing to say, but whoever supplies their pickled jalapenos produces some really great vegetables.

I tried the tangy and sweet sauces. I tend to like tangy flavors but this one didn't really seem tangy to me. The sweet was better.

The star of the meal was the apple cobbler. Very possibly the best I've ever had.

I'd probably come back to give them one more shot, but any Texas bbq joint should focus on the meat first and foremost, and there are places in Cypress and Houston that do a better job at that. Step up your...
