If you are looking for a very casual neighborhood dive bar that hosts some of the city's most talented electronic music DJ's, look no further! Charlie's is one of the friendliest places in town. Every night is something different, so be sure to check out their schedule. Sunday's are greatness as 2 of my favorite event happen that day. Dont miss Reprecussions for a night of fantastic DNB and Struttin for very dancey house. Drinks are very well priced and always mixed to perfection. They always have something delicious in the frozen drink machine which is bliss on these hot Texas nights. Also good to note that it is a very comfortable place if you are a female flying solo. The patrons are largely from the large rave community anx if you dont know anyone you will before you go home! A dive bar’s, dive bar, nestled in the sweet spot between Deep Ellum, Lakewood & Uptown, is what’s needed from time to time! Charlie’s Star Lounge has clientele as colorfully all encompassing as their decor; definitely a place to check all your biases at the door, because all are welcome here! Don’t arrive expecting fancy stemware, or rocks, rather plastic cups, filled with some of your favorite libations for great prices, served by a wonderful bartender, appropriately named "Big Fun". Djs pump different genres on vinyl the nights they’re open, so dancing is highly recommended, inside or on their patio surrounded by parking. This is my favorite place to hang out at other than my home. Very eclectic and inclusive crowd. You will meet the most interesting people from all walks of life here, which actually makes it a great place to network. There is a different “theme” every night, with DJs that play everything from punk to ‘90s hip hop and r&b to classic funk to house, and much more. Sometimes there are pop-ups with a vendor selling vintage clothing or art. The bartenders are quick and friendly, and the prices are affordable. Free parking lot right outside, and if you get there before 10pm you might find a covered spot. Karaoke on Fridays gets very crowded, so come before 10:30 if you want to sign up to sing.
