At first glance, this location looks like a great place to book. Great pictures, bearable rate… why not? So, I decided to book it. $200 cleaning fee for 2 hours? Maybe it’ll be worth it? I proceed to book it. Day of my music video shoot comes. My crew of two and I arrive on time to begin setting up and capture every necessary shot for the visual. Since there was a cleaning fee attached to our cost, I strategically planned a confetti scene towards the end of my 2-hour window. We captured the shots, we packed our bags, and left on time. 15 minutes after I had begun driving on the highway, I get a message from Scott telling me that if I did not go back to clean up what he considered an excessive amount of confetti, he’d charge me an extra $200 for clean-up. Mind you, I had already paid $200 in my 2-hour booking totaling $613.00. No where on the listing does it say that confetti is not allowed. Unfortunately, I couldn’t cancel my next shoot to fulfill his request to come to do his job for him, but I assured him I could go help clean up what was easily vacuumable after I was done shooting my next scene. He responded with something along the lines of having an emergency clean-up done due to a booking that was right after mine and that he even had to use tweezers to pick up some of the confetti. Tweezers?! THE LIES!! A few days later I get a $219 additional invoice from Peerspace. This guy charged me $400 for cleanup; he stated that the initial $200 was only for wiping and sanitizing. Mind you, I have a cleaning business and I’d LOVE to have a cleaning order to just wipe and sanitize for $200. Not only that- they told Peerspace (the booking website I used for this space) that there was glitter in every room which was absolutely FALSE as I had only used confetti and like I previously stated, shot the scene at the end to make the cleaning easier for them. The FINAL grand total for the 2 hours I booked- $832.00. While the money isn’t much of an issue, it’s the sheer laziness and greed that was exhibited to me as a guest. Unfortunately, during our creative film shoot, a martini glass broke and he initially wanted to charge me for a new set until I informed him that I’d buy the one I broke for him myself. Of course, I promptly placed it in the very top of the trash bin so the host could see it and to also, avoid any injuries from my staff. Any opportunity to make a quick buck off of you will be taken. Heck, you could rent a room for a whole day in an extremely nice hotel here in Dallas and still have money left over and not have to worry about additional cleaning fees. Keep in mind, Peerspace only keeps the host fee while the host sets the rest of the pricing which they keep for themselves. My advice to you is find another spot to do your shoot or celebration. There are many amazing spots here in Dallas that one could rent for less than $832 for 2 hours that will not only give you an extremely great experience, but will also give you more bang for your buck. All I know is that I would never do this to any of my clients. This was my true and honest experience. As I've noticed in my dispute with this host, lying to make their inexcusable actions seem appropriate is a tool they greatly utilize. I recommend you read other reviews of this place on other websites and you'll see that I'm not the only one who has had an unfortunate, unpleasant experience here. I don’t even think I’ll release the video just because they don’t deserve publicity from my work. Thank God I have a great network of musicians and local artists who know my character, morals, and integrity and who will definitely help spread the word/ back me up. Don’t say I didn’t warn you....
Read moreMy husband and I live in Washington. We chose to have our wedding at The Gaston, because we could rent the whole place out, have an outdoor ceremony, and it was close to our families. The original quote I received was $13,000 for 60 people but ultimately I paid $18,000 for 80 people, in advance. However, due to COVID, we were only able to host 45 people. Therefore I was expecting several thousand dollars back, this assumption was confirmed by the caterer and the wedding planner. On Monday before the wedding, the forecast said there was going to be rain on my wedding day. I contacted the planner about options. Previously, she had stated a tent for the backyard would be around $2500. I asked her to contact the company. On Wednesday she came back with a quote for $8000. I felt this was astronomical, an additional $8000?? I asked about other options, they said they could cover just the patio for $4000, which I still felt was way overpriced for a tent, or move the wedding inside. By Friday no one had a plan or seemed to be working on the issue. When I asked how it would work if we moved the wedding inside, they did not know. My family and I were very disappointed with the venue and their lack of options or planning. My father approached the owners, and made it clear that it was unacceptable to expect us to pay extra for a tent, because as a wedding venue they should have options for bad weather. I flat out refused to spend another dime. We asked the owners to provide a tent, and in the end they did. Hours before the wedding, I checked on the cake. The cake looked nothing like the picture I provided. I was very upset because there was nothing that could be done at this point. The wedding planner picked up the cake and signed off on it. It was totally different then what we had asked for. Later when we cut into the cake we realized the flavors and filling were incorrect as well. I was extremely disappointed. Monday after the wedding, I asked the planner to contact the bakery and let them know about the cake and to contact the caterer for my refund. I received an email, stating I can get a credit for a “regular-sized” cake from the bakery anytime in the next year, but no refund. I live in Washington and obviously have no way to use this. They ruined a once in a life time experience and a cake doesn’t make up for their bad service. The refund from the venue was $500. I was livid this was what I was told I would receive. I emailed wanting to know where the rest of my money was. The planner stated once they accounted for the "additional costs”, I didn't get a refund, but “by the grace of The Gaston," they would give me $500 since they felt bad about the way things were handled. The Gaston charged me for the cost of the tent. The owners never came to us with prices or asked us if we would cover a portion of the cost, or told us we had any responsibility for the cost of the tent at all. In fact, we flat out told them we did not want to pay for a tent, but they charged us for it anyway, informing us after the fact. After all that, the tent leaked badly, and my wedding dress was soaked and muddy after our first dance. Another once in a lifetime experience ruined. I definitely would not recommend The Gaston. The hassle we had to go through was...
