Speakeasy Date Night in Bishop Arts
Mekia B.Mekia B.
Great discovery found in the Bishop Arts area. The place is very scenic with outdoor seating available. Hostess was very personable, polite, and very knowledgeable. Sat a the bar to place my order. Another warm surprise by the bartender, I believe her name is Andrea. She helped us with ordering outside the box. But first let's talk about the drinks. Yaasss... The Evita was delightful and the house frozen margaritas were even better, pay a little extra for the Grand Marnier float and you are in business. Ordered the bread like bites that has gorgonzola cheese in them with a mixed green salad to start. Tasty! Tasty! Whatever that pesto like olive oil dip is the TRUTH. Finished with the margherita pizza. Lots of cheese so be ready. But the highlight was trying something new which was the Fernet & Coca-Cola. Not a big soda drinker but this sipper is ordered before dinner, aperitif, and it WILL creep up on you. This is a favorite among Argentinians I think or I'm close. I certainly was in the right place for a mini vacation while still in Texas. Parking might be the only challenge, depending on the time of day. But it's worth it to go check them out, if you haven't already. Trust me. I don't do horrible food!

“An Authentic Taste of Argentina!" This place is an absolute gem for anyone craving true Argentinian flavors! The chimichurri here is simply the best I’ve ever had—fresh, vibrant, and bursting with flavor. It perfectly complemented the tender and juicy cuts of meat that were cooked to perfection. Every bite transported me straight to Argentina! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a staff that makes you feel like part of the family. The attention to detail, from the traditional dishes to the drink selection, is impeccable. Whether you're a meat lover or just looking for a unique culinary experience, this restaurant will not disappoint. Highly recommend for anyone seeking an authentic, mouthwatering meal that leaves you craving more. 10/10! Sit with Antonio at the bar!! --- This review highlights the quality of the chimichurri, praises the atmosphere, and touches on the authenticity of the overall experience.

I waited & tried to calm down before making this review. Never have I been more mortified, embarrassed, and upset over a dining experience in my life. My husband and I travel a lot, almost every weekend, and have for the last 10 years; trying out new food places is our favorite past time. We attended this establishment on 06/15/24 after a 4hr drive from where we live, initially only going for the speakeasy (which was AMAZING). The drinks we had were very strong, so we decided to go back into the restaurant to eat. It was a busy Saturday night, which was fine, we were fine with waiting. When our server (Angel) introduced himself, it was clear that there was a communication barrier. That wasn’t a bother to us, we are at an authentic Latin bistro (we were just caught off guard because this was the first hiccup encountered after speaking with the front hostess, speakeasy, hostess, and 2 bartenders), we knew we would just have to point to what exactly we wanted. We had other things we wanted to do that evening, so we picked something pretty quickly to share, which was the Salmon Tropical (cooked & asparagus). After waiting a bit, a cook brought out a plate and ask if it was ours. It was not (it was what looked like an appetizer of chunks of cold fish in some sort of sauce and avacodo), so we said no. As the cook was taking the plate back, the waiter stopped him and I’m assuming said that was ours, and he looked over at our table and nodded yes. So the cook brought it back and sat it down and walked off. We had tried to fix the issue then, with no luck, so my husband and I just agreed to eat it and get on with our evening. As we were finishing up, our waiter came back and said “I put in now”. My husband tried to stop him and say we no longer wanted it, but he kept getting cut off with “I already order”. So the waiter walked off, my husband and I are ready to go at this point, and unsure of how to stop/fix the situation from here. I had already had luck talking to the hostess earlier, so I decided to go up to her and ask for help. My exact words were, “I’m so sorry to bother you, and I’m not trying to cause a problem, but I believe we are experiencing a communication barrier, and we are ready to go”. She gets who I am assuming is the manager, and things INSTANTLY take a turn for the worst. This man was immediately flying off the handle, cutting us off, and being aggressive. He threw his hands up and said, “You don’t want the food anymore?! I’ve got it. Go!” We can see him getting into it with the server, as we are waiting for our bill. As we are trying to explain what happened and pay for the food we did get, it finally clicks to him what happened and he takes it down a notch. He says he’s got it taken off and then starts complaining to us about how his server is usually pretty good, and he doesn’t understand what his problem is tonight. The manager brings us the food that we had initially ordered, and it looks like it was aggressively thrown into a box (the box wouldn’t close because one side was pushed in), and motions across the table and states “this is on me”. I get out my money because I’m not a dine and dasher, and honestly at this point, I had felt bad for the server and was scared he would get fired. I at least wanted to leave enough to cover what our we had originally ordered (the Salmon Tropical for $28), but I only had 2 $20s and needed change. The manager is still speaking and speaking over us at this point because he is still irritated (my husband had stated he understands how things get when it’s busy- this caused him to get defensive ), took both of my $20s, tucked them in his pocket, and again said “remember this is on me” before walking off. I just started crying, and now the whole restaurant is looking at us as it had caused a huge scene. We left defeated and upset....

Beware of this place! My family and I were very excited to try this place out, but were HIGHLY disappointed!

We decided to celebrate my mom's birthday there on Sunday since we also had family in town from Minnesota, and they Had never had Argentinian food. I made our table reservation for 7 people, online. On various occasions I called the restaurant and they never seemed to answer. Finally I was able to get up hold of them about 2 different times and they never mentioned anything about their menus brunch/dinner menu.

Reservation was Originally at 1:30 p.m.. But since we came from a Garland and it was heavily raining we got stuck in traffic and did not get there till about 2:30 p.m. all while letting the restaurant know we were going to be late. When we get there We noticed the brunch menu was still out. I asked our server when the dinner menu would be out and he said not until 5:00 p.m.. Mind you we have never been to an Argentinian restaurant so we did not know there were 2 different menus for different times. They could not accommodate us to be dinner menu. So we were already upset. When my cousin ordered French fries for her son, the waiter instead of saying "we do not serve French fries at the time" actually put in the order for roasted potatoes and handed them to my cousin and said "here you go, these are all we have". Expecting us to pay for them. They ended up closing at 3pm that day so we felt rushed. So we hurried and cut my mom's cake in a rush since they Had already started cleaning and putting things up, since we were the only ones left.

Server stated that hours were Weds- Fri from 5pm -close and Sat & Sun from open to 3pm then 5pm-close. This past Sunday they decide to close early just because.

I feel like they take advantage of the clients and lie about things. Brunch food was mediocre. We were expecting to eat Milanesa, Steak with Chimichurri, but I guess that will have to be at another Argentinian restaurant sinve will never be back to...

Disappointing Decline in Service and Quality

We’ve been loyal customers of this restaurant for years, but after our brunch on November 3rd, we’re done. This experience was beyond frustrating and disappointing. We had the same server we’ve had before, and every time, it gets worse. He’s entitled, aggressive, and has no sense of customer service. We told him at the start that we wanted separate checks, but he rudely warned us that if anyone moved seats, he’d combine all checks. None of us moved, yet every single check was wrong. Some of us were charged for items we didn’t order, and others were charged for extras that were never served.

The service was painfully slow. It took him 30 minutes just to take our appetizer order, and we had to literally flag him down for everything else. When it came time to order our entrées, we waited an additional 15 minutes just to get his attention again. The restaurant staff seemed to see how overwhelmed he was, but no one stepped in to help. Other tables weren’t even eating because no one had food. The whole situation felt chaotic.

As for the food, it’s gone downhill drastically. The empanadas used to be amazing, but now they’re tasteless. The Milanesa Napoletana was especially disappointing—the ham tasted like something from a cheap grocery store, not at all fresh. My entrée even came out cold, which was the final straw. It felt like we were eating fast food rather than the quality meals we were used to from here.

Whoever is running this place needs to take these issues seriously or consider changing management. It’s clear the staff can’t handle large groups, the food quality is slipping, and the overall experience is becoming unbearable. If they don’t address these problems, they’re going to lose even more customers. After years of being loyal patrons, we’re sad to say we won’t be...
