Been frequenting this restaurant since I bought my home in 2007 in Oak Cliff when it was just a one room restaurant. Have eaten here at least once a week for the past 15 years, joining many of my friends here that live in Oak Cliff as well as bringing family here when they come in town over the past 15 years. Was planning to bring a party of 13 people for a cousin Christmas party so went to their website to make a reservation. Their website states that they accept reservations on Yelp reservations. Went to Yelp but could not find where I could reserve. So I called the restaurant and was told they were not accepting reservations. I told them their website says they are on Yelp Reservations. I was then told, yes, but we are not accepting reservations at this time. So, just showing up on a Friday night with 13 people I felt would be unfair to the restaurant. So, I stopped in to let them know that I would be bringing 13 people and didn't want them to be surprised. They asked what time. I said 7pm. I was told that was their busiest time and could I come at 5pm. I said the majority of the party would be coming from Rockwall and couldn't get off work by then. The guy said let me ask my manager. (Sounds somewhat like making a reservation) He went and talked to a woman that has been at the restaurant for quite some time and waited on me as well as my friends many, many times and always gave me a hug when I would see her. Tonight, she was different. She told the guy no that they couldn't accommodate and she turned around and saw that it was me. I could tell she recognized who I was but said a Hi in passing, not the usual greeting and went on her way. The guy returned and said she said that they couldn't accommodate. I said so you are telling me to go to another restaurant. He said unless I could come in at 5, then yes. I understand not being able to accommodate. What I don't understand and find unacceptable is your website saying you accept reservations on Yelp, but then you don't. I also find it unacceptable that your manager, who has greeted me with open arms every time I come to the restaurant in the past snubbing me when there is hard news to deliver. It's unprofessional. I told the young man that was the bartender that I was communicating with that I won't be making it with my party at 5, nor would I be back to the restaurant at all. Farewell to this long time favorite. Something has changed recently with staff turnover and management and not for the good. Too many to choose from in the Bishop Arts District these days. This one is just dropped off my to...
Read moreI would have to disagree with the one star comment. Not really a good basis for one worker at a restaurant, this could happen anywhere people steal not a review just a complaint.
I trust the servers there and I am a regular, because it really is a fantastic atmosphere. The walls are dripping with stain, and the artwork inside are very interesting. It will smell weird at first from the stain art on the walls, but the food will take over soon. There is a small patio outside and a large bar.
The margaritas are amazing, but my view is narrow because I can’t move away from the sangria swirl and the grand Mariner swirl. The mix is not over the top sweet, and to me it makes it top 5 margaritas I've had next to the top shelf swirl at Gloria’s.
Food is authentic food, that is rare this is not freak in tex-mex. I usually get the peace pipe with Huasteca cream sauce on top. My wife gets the fish tacos and she says they are perfect because it is not fishy at all. Diego and Sergio are amazing waiters, and I have never had a bad moment there even when the are slammed on a Friday night. If its your first time in the restaurant don’t go on Friday night for the first time. Usually people get stressed out because the have to wait on seating. Go before the crowds or during the week to really relax and taste the food.
Obviously I love this place and it is one of my top 5 places to eat locally. Though a little on the high priced side $$$, but if you want great food you have to pay a little more. If your wanting cheap Mexican food or tex- mex go to On the Border, el phoenix, or El Chico. Other good places to check out are Campuzano’s $$$, Gloria’s $$$, and Ojeda’s $$, and La Duni...

I was craving to try food from my Veracruz, and I went to this restaurant that many people had recommended to me, obviously none of Veracruz, telling me that it was very delicious and with typical Veracruz food. The first is very true, the food is delicious but the second is totally false, it has nothing from Veracruz, the suppose picada that not named picada seem between sope and gordita queretana, the enchiladas stuffed with cheese I didn't know if it was manchego but it wasn't ranchero cheese or Panela, the stuffed chili Yes it was jalapeño but with so much stuff they put on it you can't even find the chili. I saw on their menu that they put epazote in the soups, using epazote does not mean that it is Veracruz food. Anyway, I understand that you are not going to find the taste of home away from home but if your name is Veracruz obviously your menu should have the words and food panuchos, picadas, empanadas, gordas, bomba, champola, pambazo for example, since you are representing gastronomy from a state, unlike if you use a different name for your restaurant and thus make interesting mixes of Mexican gastronomy to which the menu does make match, and I know many places that recreate the typical food of Mexico, with out select one state, at now many people in this area think that is typical food of Veracruz state when it is not like that. It’s difficult to find parking, the service is not good but...
